JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 163 :: the joy of life

11 Jun
{lRings of life}

My hands tell so many stories. I have the garnet heart ring of Mama Sling that I wear every day. It tells the story of a mother who was more of an angel than a human being, more a guide than a guardian, more loved and mysterious than ever with each passing year.

I have a diamond wedding ring that Justin gave me in a surprise, down on one knew adventure that led to a surprise up in the mountains wedding. He found the ring on the east coast and held onto it for four years before he proposed on the west coast. We got married in the Rocky Mountains and the memories still make my heart bounce and me feel more than a mile high.

And, now, I have a beautiful opal ring. It’s from Australia. The only place on earth that celebrates my birthday with fireworks in the middle of winter. I was born on Australia Day, January 26th. It is winter in the northern hemisphere, but it is summer on my birthday down under. So it seems, it is only filling that I have a ring that dances with the fire of opals on my hand.

I wear it with such joy. It was Nancy’s. And, while we said goodbye to her this weekend with an official ceremony, the memories still reverberate in my heart and now on my hand.

We leave very little behind in this life. The memories are the most treasured. But, sometimes, a small token of joy can last another lifetime. If we choose to receive it.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

BLOG – GIFT DAY 335 :: december gifts

1 Dec

Tonight I find myself thinking about gifts.

Which puts me right back to where I started this year. Gifts. Abundance. Promises.

How are your promises and goals going?

I started out this year thinking I would give a gift away for 365 days! It was a grand plan all centered around my promise to create abundance.

Then a lump popped up in my throat. Doctor’s appointments scheduled. Surgery took over. My thyroid was removed. And, frankly, I was too overwhelmed to remember to give a gift a day.

After the dust settled, and my thyroid was released, I was overcome with the feeling that true abundance comes in the form of good health.

But now, it’s December 1st and as I look at the calendar I want to make good on my promise. So today starts the grand finale of this year for me — and for you too!

Over here, my pledge has come full circle. I will give a gift a day away for the rest of the year. Except now, I realize that a gift can be excruciatingly small and still be overwhelmingly impactful.

Like tonight for instance.
My gift today was doing the dishes after Justin made dinner. Without complaints. Without any noise at all — except that I was singing, whistling while I worked if you will.

It was a direct exchange, really.
He brought me home this little gift for breakfast today (yes, that is a maple donut with bacon on top!):

Justin brought it home from Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland.

Here’s the thing. He didn’t have to bring it home. I didn’t expect it and I was totally shocked when he showed up with it. (I was also in sugar shock for about 2 hours after I ate it, but that’s another story).

It was a gift.
A little bit of something that said I thought of you.

And so tonight, as a really minuscule, tiny return of a favor, I did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen while whistling — so Justin wouldn’t have to after he cooked. My gift. As small as it might be, said something back — I’m thinking of you too.

And that’s the power of giving.
It’s not the receiving, or even the thought, or the size of the gift that matters most. It’s the flow back and forth, the wave of good things, the energy exchange that a gift sets in motion. That’s what really counts.

If you don’t believe me, try it yourself.
I know I will be. Every day until the end of the year.

Care to join me?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless!}

Day 321: surprise!

18 Nov

It’s day seven of my giving challenge and today I was given my own surprise.

Tonight at dinner, Pam handed me this Yoga Dog calendar, saying, “I just had to get this for you!”

Of course it’s perfect, a calendar with photos of dogs doing yoga poses.

And the cover looks just like our little Brady – with that same crazy Vizsla smile.

It put a smile on my face and reminds me how great it feels to both give and receive.

May the giving continue!

Here’s to Giving Thanks this week and a happy Thanksgiving.

Day 319: f*ing friday :: freeeeeeeee!

16 Nov

TGIF.
Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. In Year One, I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Frank

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Freeeeeeeeee!

As in, giving feels so good!

It’s the week before Thanksgiving, and while I am usually focused on the gratitude part of this holiday, this year I’m stuck on the giving end.

And it’s so much fun!

So tonight, I am giving away another Lovemore+Fearless Tee. That’s right! The first five people to comment on this blog will receive a shirt for free, scroll down below to learn how.

Why? You might ask…
Because I am inspired by Cami Walker’s story of how giving saved her life, or at the very least, how it made her life much better. In fact, she says her plan to give 29 gifts in 29 days helped her multiple sclerosis, so much so, she began walking without cane.

You can read Cami’s story in her fabulous book titled 29 Gifts: How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life.

And, if you are one of the first five people to comment below on this blog post, I will send you your very own Lovemore+Fearless Tee. Seriously.

Good luck and …Givemore!!!

xo~Jamie

Warning: May cause an open heart and extreme fearlessness!
Limit one per person, up to five fabulous people!!
