JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 288 :: a night with oprah #LifeYouWantHou

17 Oct

Where do I begin? How about the goodie bag!!? What’s not to love about a goodie bag!?

It was of course an amazing goodie bag (although I’m pretty bummed that the Mophie juice pack doesn’t fit my 5c iphone … it only fits 5 and 5s….wah!). But I am really not complaining, not at all. I am on a little bit of a high that I’m sure will continue for a few days.

There were so many highlights, I’m not sure where to start or where to stop. So why don’t we start at the beginning.

We arrived in O Town this morning to a crowd of women bursting with energy inside the makeshift town hall, or maybe it was more like O’s version of the county fairgrounds?

As we walked around the tents peering inside to see what lovely surprise waited for us a woman stopped us.

“Would you mind talking on camera about fashion?” she said.

I almost laughed out loud. Boy, do I have a lot to say about fashion! Mostly about not shopping and what it does for the head, heart, body and soul. And how it sent me down an entire journey of lovemore-fearless, abundance, peak performance, goal seeking, looking for the beauty in life adventures.

But they just wanted a sound bite.

So in front of the camera I just summed it all up as beauty starts on the inside. And I believe that… because of all that soul-searching said adventure that not shopping has sent me on, including being here at Oprah’s Live The Life You Want Weekend.

Finally, show time arrived. The lights dimmed. Little lights twinkled all around the stadium. Our wrists lit up too!

Oprah walked onto the stage in a long, yellow gown. She seemed lit up from the inside out, and as the spotlights followed her down the stage it was almost as if she was also lit from somewhere else. Something else, more powerful, channeling a message of life and love.

Her first question as she gazed over the crowd was, “Why are you here?”
I felt as if she meant it on a deeply profound level, way beyond the walls of the Toyota Center.

Oprah then shared her life story and the lessons she has learned from living a big life. Her struggles, her triumphs, her major life moments. As she sang to the crowd, she seemed to summon every part of her being into the hour and half address. Part journalist, part actress, part little girl singing in the choir, part fashionista, part network media mogul, and part spiritual leader. She seemed, in many ways, to be doing her greatest work and sharing her most powerful message. No surprise, it all comes down to LOVE.

As I sit here tonight reflecting on the experience I am in awe of her spirit, her bravery, her vision, her energy and her love.

It was, indeed, as if I witnessed a peak performance.

More tomorrow.

 {why are you here?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 314 :: a month of inspiration :: puppies

11 Nov

Today, in my month-long nod to inspiration, I share puppies.
Because I love puppies. Who doesn’t?

Exhibit A: this species on Attack of the Cute

When I first sat down tonight to write about puppies I considered it too soft. And possibly inappropriate on a serious, honorable, reverent day like Veteran’s Day.

But then I realized something.
I am able to go gaga over puppies because there are far stronger people in this world who take care of the conflicts I can only imagine in my worst nightmares.

So to them I say thank you for your service.
And, among many other things, thank you for allowing me think about puppies.

Because there is something inspiring about puppies. New life. New legs. Everything new for that matter.

They help us see the world in a new light.
And the many new uses for socks too.

If you are ever feeling blue, I challenge you to do what my friend Courtney taught me… put the search word “puppy” into Pinterest.

Then sit back. Relax. Scroll. And smile.
Thank you for the gift of puppies.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {playmore!}

{what do you go gaga for?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 313 – a month of inspiration :: gratitude

9 Nov

Today, in my month-long nod to inspiration, I share gratitude.

It’s the season to be thankful. In addition to eating copious amounts of turkey and cranberries too. But I digress…

Tonight I ask… what are you grateful for?
This gratitude thing is pretty big actually. From good health to happiness.

Want to know more. Watch this video (if you haven’t already seen it). It beautifully captures the scientific proof that gratitude leads to happiness.

As for me, today I’m grateful for:

  • my favorite pair of comfy sweats (from Martha’s Vineyard)
  • a warm fireplace on a crisp night
  • MOST important, a fun bike ride by the river with Justin on a the sunny day

What are you grateful for?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {playmore!}

GIFT DAY 100: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 24: the gift of giving

10 Apr

Day 24 over here of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge.

What are you grateful for today?

Today I am grateful for:

1) My coaching group, the You Can Do Anything Divas!
2) Green smoothies3) An organic pink roseI didn’t know roses could be organic.
But my acupuncturist gave me a pink, organic rose today.

It was a gift.

She was sent a dozen organic pink roses, and instead of placing them in a vase to sit pretty in the sun she handed them out. She shared. She passed it on.

How brilliant. Beautiful. Bountiful.

Today is the 100th day of the year and of my promise to explore abundance. And with that promise comes my pledge to give away a gift of the day.

I find it inspiring and ironic that on the 100th day I was presented with a pretty pink rose.

I also take it as a symbolic kick in my own pants!

I’ve been so obsessed with doctor’s appointments and what to eat, what NOT to eat, and where to pee on a pH stick (don’t ask) that I have let my gift giving slide.

It’s not that I haven’t been gifting…it’s more like I’ve been cheating my gift giving graciousness.

Like today, I thought to myself, “Paying for acupuncture is kind of like a gift, right?”

Yeahhhhhhh….. so clearly there’s work to do. Here’s to the next 100 days. May they be full of gifts and good will.

And sharing.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore (fearless),

BLOG – GIFT DAY 086 30-day gratitude challenge: day 10, lovemore fearless

27 Mar

Day 10 of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge over here.

What are you grateful for today?
What floats your boat?
What has you singing the praises of fairy-godmothers and fabulous friends today?

Today I am grateful for:

1) Sunshine so bright I had to wear shades.
2) Computers!
3) LOVE.

And, when I say LOVE I don’t meant the fairytale, bring me flowers and chocolates, fall head over heels LOVE.

I don’t mean the unconditional protect my tribe at all costs sort of parental LOVE.

I don’t even mean that hormonal attraction that makes your heart skip a beat brand of LOVE.

What I mean is this….
I am grateful that I have discovered LOVE.

The kind of LOVE that is the opposite of fear.
The kind of LOVE that is the glue between you and me.
The kind of LOVE that connects us all.

The LOVE that allows me to open my eyes and see things differently, as if you were me, or I were you.

The kind of LOVE that reminds me that we are all the same.
Same journey, different paths.

I am grateful to LOVE.
The kind that has been bestowed upon me.
And the kind that has been taken away from me too.

And it’s here for us to learn as we give it a go, take a leap, extend our hand and help each other along the way.LOVE is a lesson that will persistently pop up over and over again until we get it right.

For that, I am grateful to LOVE.
And, what’s not to LOVE about that?

GIFT DAY 085: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 9, you just won!

26 Mar

Day 9 of the Gratitude Challenge over here.

And it has me thinking…

Who would you thank?

Let’s say you just won a REALLY HUGE AWARD. Like the biggest, baddest, bestest award ever.

Who would you thank?

A Grammy.
Time Magazine’s Man of the Year.
Mom of the Year.

Who would you thank?

Here’s a fun site built by Rebecca Rolfe called Thank The Academy that tracks just who has been thanked during Academy Awards Ceremonies.

You can see who thanked whom.
The Academy. Their Kids. Their Writer. Director. Agent. Publicist. God.

It’s a cool site with lots of built-ins to track the GRATITUDE in Hollywood. The flavor of the moment, the difference between male and female actors, directors and writers.

You can even write your own thank you speech.

It’s cool.
But even more than being cool, it has me thinking…..

Who would you thank?
For what you have.

Today, I am grateful for:
1) Cell phones.
2) Stephen Lynch songs that make me laugh (when I don’t want to).
3) Big shoes.

But even more than being grateful, I would like to thank:

1) My parents for equipping me with more love than I need.
2) Justin, for making me laugh — even when I don’t want to.
3) And you. Yes, YOU. For being here with me.

Thank you.

I promise to be here for you too.

More tomorrow.

GIFT DAY 079: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 3

20 Mar

Day 3 of the Gratitude Challenge over here.

30 DAYS OF GRATITUDE.gratitude, pinterest, jamie eslinger, the promise daily
Ends on April 16th.

What are you grateful for today?

If you want to play along you can post your three “gratitudes” in the comments section of the blog.

Today I am grateful for:

1. Public transportation – I LOVE the train!
2. Green tea. It’s oh, so good.
3. YOU!

And, when I say YOU, I mean YOU.

The person who is reading this right now. Without YOU I would not be inspired to write every single day.

Without YOU, I never would have kept my first promise three years ago, to not shop for a year and instead invest in my head, heart, body and soul.

Without YOU, well, so much in my life would be so different.

I show up because of you.
I write because of you.
I reflect and explore and push my limits because of you.

Sure, I’m in this for me too. I show up for me, and explore and reflect and do this promise thing each day for myself. But it would not be the same without you.

So, today, I am grateful for you.
Whether you’re here for the first time or have been reading since Day 1 of The Promise 365.

Maybe we’ve met in person or exchanged emails or talked on the phone.

Maybe we went to grade school together.

Maybe we live in the same house.

Maybe we’ve never met.

Doesn’t matter. I love you. I thank you.

We find each other when we need each other.
And, for that, I am grateful.

More tomorrow.
