JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 12 :: taking a joy ride

12 Jan

Ah, the new year is underway! And so is my new promise: Joy. And like a little kid learning a new word I’m trying it on for size.

I am also realizing that joy is a personal statement, a choice, a collection of choices really. As I think about what brings me joy, and what brings me happiness, I’m wondering how I ever learned the difference and the meaning of these words.

  • Happiness
  • Glee
  • Bliss
  • Pleasure
  • Delight
  • Cheer
  • Joy

They are all so similar, yet so very different. I look forward to exploring more this year. Contrasting them and trying them on for size, and truly deciphering joy from the bunch. It will be a joy ride, I’m sure.

Speaking of…..
What brings you joy?

More tomorrow…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 325 :: epson salts

27 Nov

Day 325: Bathtime.

After a week of being on my feet I have succumbed to sitting down. In a bathtub. Nothing could feel more relaxing or rejuvenating. It’s kind of like yoga…. relaxing, stretching out, feeling good.

And now, I go do my favorite yoga pose… Shavasana.
Namaste, Bubble Bath. Namaste.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 244 :: happiness at work

7 Sep

Happiness At Work. It’s a topic that my Curiosity Stream dealt me tonight. So I bit. Since this is the year of Bliss, it seemed like a relevant topic.

The video basically explores the topic of how to make money and have fun, and how some companies around the world are tackling the balance.

But can money buy you happiness — or bliss?

It’s a great question. Age-old question. Maybe even larger-than-life question. Based on the interviews in this documentary the word on the subject came down to factors that go beyond salary, like…

  • Sense of purpose
  • Respect
  • Doing something bigger than themselves and doing it with other people
But the biggest one was that trusty old T world: TRUST. Which seems to make sense to me.

And that has me thinking….In work and life, in happiness we trust.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 41 :: bring it on butterfly

10 Feb
I’m thinking of butterflies tonight. Mostly because it’s time for change, I can feel it in the air, with the blossoms on the trees, the seasons are a changing.

There are butterflies all over my desk. On my notebook, on my pad of sticky paper, all staring back at me. As if saying…. get ready for change!

Transition. The butterfly is so good at it.

“From egg, to larvae (caterpillar), to pupa (the chrysalis or cocoon) and from the cocoon the butterfly emerges in her unfurling glory.

What a massive amount of transition this tiny creature undergoes. Consider for a moment the kind of energy this expends. I daresay if a human were to go through this kind of change we’d freak out!”
Butterfly Animal Symbols

Yes. Freak out. I can’t help but look back at the calendar and realize I am on the verge of hitting the year mark of my life turning upside down. Time flies when you’re learning how to turn into a butterfly.

It’s part of why I chose BLISS as my promise this year. To pursue that which is what I think we all aspire to on some level. And it goes by so many names.

Happiness. Joy. Excitement. Contentment. Bliss.
Bring it on butterfly. Bring it on.

More tomorrow.

  {what do you call bliss?}

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 37 :: bliss movie alert

6 Feb
Only one update on BLISS today. Tonight we watched this:

Hector and The Search For Happiness.

I rate it RECOMMEND. Especially if you want to up your happiness quotient. It’s somewhat predictable but mostly feel good moments with the depth that loss, love and life always bring.

Such is bliss?

It made me cry, reflect, laugh and think. A pretty good formula for a movie. And possibly life too.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 27 :: a little bit happy

27 Jan
Oh bliss!  I still don’t really know what that means. I do have very clear moments of locating BLISS in my memories. Like yesterday, all of those birthday messages that you left me on Facebook made me cry, very happy tears.

Back in college I was given an award. It was “Most Likely To Be Happy In A Nuclear Holocaust.” I’ve been thinking a lot about that award lately, especially in this new promise of finding bliss.

I am really mostly happy most of the time. I like to think I look on the bright side of shit hit the fan. But I have my melt down, drag out, it aint pretty moments. (Just ask Justin, he gets to see them up close and personal more than anyone. Lucky guy.)

But to harness bliss ALL the time, well, I’m not sure even “happy girl in a nuclear holocaust” can figure that out. It might actually be certifiably mental for someone to be happy all the time.

But that’s okay. I’ve dedicated an entire year to absorb, research, track down and capture as much bliss as possible. As this journey unfolds, in what I hope will be in the most wonderful of ways, I am reflecting on the fact that it’s my life (and yours!). Every single day of it.

Good enough reason to be even a little bit happy.

More tomorrow.

 {what makes you a little bit happy?}

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 15 :: brady on bliss

15 Jan
Tonight I give you Brady’s take on bliss. Apparently all it takes is a bath. (I can almost relate, as I do love my bath time too… but I never run around the house naked, dripping wet afterwards barking with this much excitement!).

Check out the video here… or just got to my Facebook page!
Happy tails to you.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 2 :: always believe

2 Jan

In a total Bliss Move I received an early birthday gift from two of my favorite girls. And it couldn’t have arrived at a better time as I have officially lost my voice (sniff, cough, gag, Sudafed).

The sign reads:
“Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.”

I think it’s the perfect way to start the New Year and this new promise to Follow Your Bliss. (And to get rid of this cold!).

What do you believe will happen next for you?

More tomorrow.

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 126 :: pop, pop, poppies!

7 May

Today’s spot of beauty popped right in front of me today. On a walk.

Actually, it was pointed out to me. I didn’t know poppies could be yellow. I always think of poppies as bright red.

So I was surprised when Jaynane pointed out these poppies on our walk.

Yellow has always been my favorite color. Sure, I’ve fallen in love with pink and turquoise and even a black phase (I’m a marketing girl, it happens to all of us!). But YELLOW has always been my true color love.

It’s the color of happiness, optimism, and hope. Long live the power of yellow.

More tomorrow.

{what is your color?}
