JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 365 :: a kind finale

31 Dec
{farewell 2017}

And here we are! The last day of 2017. The grand finale. The big hurrah… to a year of kindness.

There are so many words for kindness… I know because I looked them up:

And because I also just lived out an entire year pondering the power of kindness… Intentional acts of kindness to be exact. While I entered the year thinking I would be sprinkling kindness around the world in grand and amazing ways, what really happened was this — I found kindness in my own heart.

So much closer to home.

That always seems to be the way it goes with these promises. They open up areas inside of me I never knew existed. Never could have expected…and definitely didn’t plan on discovering. Even though they were there the entire time.

That’s the magic and the power of a purposeful promise. It’s always a game of setting an intention and then just showing up. Every single day. That’s all it takes. And then it will take you on the adventure of a lifetime (or at least a year!) full of twists and turns and surprise and delight until you end up sitting at your computer on the last day of the year realizing how perfect the entire year unfolded right before your very eyes.

Thank you, kindness. For letting me chase you this year, and then showing me you were right here all along, pulling at my heartstrings.

Thank you, kindness. For teaching me to look for you, starting inside myself and then spotting you inside the smiles, eyes, laughter, and love of others.

Most of all, thank you for teaching me to be more kind.

Tomorrow I announce a new promise for 2018… want to join me!?
Drumroll, please……

More tomorrow…

{thank you, kindness}

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 361 :: a kind year

27 Dec

It’s beginning to look a lot like 2018… everywhere you go!

Before we get there, I’m beginning to reflect on 2017 – where the year has taken me, the path we have walked together … and how we got here.

What were your lessons from this year we call 2017?
I called it my Year of Kindness.  And it played out in ways I couldn’t imagine, as it always does with this promise work. I set a theme, I make a promise and I go into each year writing about it each and every day. Some days are way more exciting than others.

For instance, I never would have guessed a surprise pop-up wedding in the middle of Colorado would happen right in the middle of the year! Surprise. And, yet, it seemed so perfect — why didn’t I see it coming? I don’t know. (And how did we keep it a secret – long story!)  And yet, that is the magic of making these promises.

You never know what is going to happen. Until you try. And then, what transpires is always beyond my wildest dreams — and plans. They are even better than my own plans my own head could come up with — really.

And that is what makes this work so exciting. Sometimes you have to take the brain out of the equation and listen to your heart. And learning to do that is what one might call kindness.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 3 :: my kind of gift

3 Jan

Plan On.

It’s Day 3! And today is easy peasy. I’m sharing a little gift with you. It comes with a whole bunch of kindness from my heart. It also comes from an entire year of planning.

This is my planner. I created it for myself last year. Then I used it every day of 2016. It helped me stay on track. But it wasn’t perfect… so I updated it with all the things that worked. And removed the rest.

So, in a way, it’s perfected. But… nothing is every really PERFECT so here’s my wish for you:

1. Download this PDF planner
2. Use it, love it up, doodle on it, be bold with your goalicious self
3. Let me know how it works for you (and what you would add, change, edit, expand)

Enjoy kind soul. Happy 2017!

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 366 :: it’s been a year of yoga

31 Dec

Day 366: 2016.

One. Big. Year. Doing yoga every damn day! Even on trains. And planes. Here’s how this crazy year unfolded…

From trains to the “plains” I saw landscapes that took my breath away. Thank you, Amtrak! What an amazing adventure, doing yoga on a train can be:

I did yoga on planes too: (Thank you Southwest Airlines)

I did yoga near the water:

And amongst the tulips too:

Then I did yoga on top of mountains. And I mean… REALLY big mountains.
(Who knew I lived so close to these majestic wonders? Than you Stacy!)

From Denver to Dallas, and Illinois to Arizona, I did yoga on the road:

And inside the depth of canyons at Lake Powell:

I had yogi friends come and visit!

And had lots of fun with my favorite little yogis too!

Pup did yoga in my suitcase:

Brady did yoga on my dresser:

Both of them turned into little yogi knots under blankets:

I spotted a starfish doing yoga on the shore:

I bought a pair of (gasp!) Birkenstocks fit for a yogi… (they really are comfy):

And I did glow in the dark yoga on Halloween!

All year long, I learned so much more from my resident Yogi expert, Jill:

But mostly I did yoga at home. In my office. On the floor. With my mat. And usually a dog nearby. This is what I have come to believe is the true sign of a dedicated yogi — the ability to do yoga anywhere. Under any circumstances. In any place. Any time.

Even if it’s taking a deep breath. One after the other.

And from all of that I learned this: to be gentler and kinder to my zen self. I did not lose weight, I did not turn into a yoga superpower, I did not even do a headstand. But I did do this: chilled the freak out.

In fact, I feel so full of zen-ness I kind of want to go hit a ball. No, seriously. After all this yoga my body wants to play. To play a game with other people where we all go after a shared goal with a ball (and maybe a racket and cute skirt?). And, yes, to smack the hell out of that tennis ball would feel really nice. I have no idea why? Just sounds like fun.

But seriously…. I have learned so much from this year of twists and turns. Mostly, it has reinforced the fact that you CAN do anything. Even yoga – every single day – for a year.

Sometimes it’s not your best, something it’s your worst. And sometimes it’s amazingly powerful. You learn your body can do more than you ever dreamed (CROW!) even though it’s less than what all those perfect yogi people do in all the magazines. You CAN do more than you think. You just have to keep trying.

You just have to show up.

That’s the magic of any promise, or intention, or wish. My wish for you is that this New Year brings you all of your desires and hopes  …and more.

Tomorrow is 2017 and I will be back. Oh, my dear Lord, I can’t believe I’m saying this… But yes, a New Year starts tomorrow and I’ve got a New Promise — do you? (I will share mine tomorrow, right here on this blog.)

Namaste, Yoga Every Damn Day. Namaste.

More tomorrow.

2014 BLOG – DAY 1 new year, new you!

1 Jan

It is 2014. Officially! And we are back to DAY 1.

New year. New promise.

To ring in 2014 I am reflecting on what my heart desires.
What does your heart desire?

Do you want more love, more vacation, more money, more fun?
Maybe you want less worries, less weight, less stress?

What is your heart’s calling?
How will 2014 unfold for you?

Over here, I am crafting a new promise.
This will be the 4th year blogging.
Really? Really. Four years!

Believe me, I have toyed with giving up.
Especially after last night when my sister texted me to report there was a terrible link on my blog. She said one of the links led to a porn site. WHAT???!!

I gasped for air. I ran to my computer. I checked the link. It went to the right place. It was fine.

Then I checked the link on my iPhone.
Yep. It led to a straight up “not so nice” website. I was mortified. I immediately deleted the links. I thought I was hacked! I changed my passwords. I scrambled to figure it out. (Turns out it was the other site that was hacked and I am okay.)

But what a way to start the year off with a bang.

I must admit there have been many times when I have considered putting my blog aside and channeling my time into other activities. Last night was no exception.

But in the end, I know this is true: blogging everyday keeps me on track.

It’s a system.
It’s a routine.
And there’s no better way to stay focused than to make a promise — and make yourself accountable to it.

So here we go 2014!
Blog and all.

Tomorrow I will share my new promise.
And I hope you share yours too!

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 365 :: abundance & what 2013 taught me (3 years blogging!)

31 Dec

Happy New Year!

What a year!
First of all, let me say thank you. If you have been with me this far I am grateful. Today marks 3 full years of blogging EVERY single day. Three years!!!  Just another proof point that you can do anything. Really, you can.

So to The Year of 2013 this is what I have to say to you:

Thank you for teaching me the true nature of abundance. I had grand visions of uncovering the amazing secrets of abundance when this year began. Would I discover gold? Win the lottery? Both?

I had a grand scheme to give away a gift a day every single day of 2013.

Turns out, Ms. Abundance, you had a much bigger lesson in store for me.
(By the way I believe abundance is female… I don’t know why but let’s go with it.)

I started the year …giving.

I was inspired by the book 29 Gifts and the promise of abundance by giving something away everyday for a month. Except, in my true Type A personality nature, I vowed to take on 365 days of gifts. (Take that universe!)

Turns out I failed.

First we had a storm.
Not just any storm — a blizzard + hurricane + nor’easter + snowpocalypse.

We were lucky that our house on the beach was still standing since so many neighbors lost so much. (It was a miracle.)

Then, I begged Justin to go to the Boston Marathon with me and we ended up staying home.  We never could have imagined what would happen that day.

And then, out of nowhere, a lump in my throat appeared.

Then we moved across the country!

And landed in Oregon!

We grew a garden (with a TON of zucchini!!)

The lump in my throat came out and was benign… woo hoo!!

The Red Sox won the World Series.

We fostered a puppy! And passed the Foster 101 test (by finding her a home).

We partied in Seattle (Pearl Jam 2013) with Lightning Bolts!

And then unwrapped the season with family.

Through it all I have learned so much about abundance.

So maybe my gift-giving scheme didn’t work out the way I planned. But in the end I learned so much about abundance.

Health is the greatest wealth.
Family is a precious resource.
Friends are gold!

Abundance comes from so many things.
And there is nothing more powerful than the heart.

So here’s to 2014. May it be a year full of miracles, love, and abundance!
Cheers to you!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless}

{happy new year!}

Day 002: what is abundance?

2 Jan

I suppose if I am going to spend an entire year focusing, researching and diving into the pool of “abundance”

…I should start with a general understanding of what it is.

So here we have it, straight out of the dictionary:

  1. an extremely plentiful or oversufficient quality or supply
  2. overflowing fullness: abundance of the heart
  3. affluence; wealth, the enjoyment of abundance

But, really it goes deeper than that, right?

It has to be more than a defined word.
It must be a state of mind.
A way of being.
A way of life.

So what is abundance to me?
It’s a good question.

I pondered the idea as we walked the streets of New York City over the holiday.

  • NYC. The Big Apple. Mecca of wealth and privilege.
  • Limitless options, extravagant shopping and dining.
  • Beautiful buildings and beautiful people.
  • The best of the best. The cream of the crop.
  • If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
  • Start spreading the news!

Then I saw this sign.

thepromis365.com, jamie eslinger, the promise daily

“In the City That Never Sleeps, everyone needs a place to pray.”

And it made me think about what my “gifts” each day this year should be.

So here goes …I have to start somewhere.

My gift today:
Everyone who comments on the blog today will receive a prayer from me. That’s it. I will send good vibes your way. Straight from my heart.

Could only help us all, right??

And that brings me to…
What does abundance mean to you?

More tomorrow.

Day 001: what is a happy new year?

1 Jan

We did something crazy last night.
New Year’s Eve in Times Square.

At least we ATTEMPTED to watch the ball drop on the center of the universe. One problem… so did everyone else in the universe.

New York City wasn’t just a BIG APPLE last night, it was one BIG MAGNET.

People lined the streets: families, grandparents, children in strollers, crazy college students in shorts with bare legs and tiny t-shirts!

It seemed as if EVERY walk of life was there.
We were magnetized. We were called to the ball.

It made me think:  How do we BE a magnet for what we want?
Today marks Year Three of The Promise 365 — my promise to myself to stay accountable for what I want to create in my life.

This year my promise is to explore ABUNDANCE.

How am I going to do that?  By giving something away every single day for 365 Days in a row — and write about it.  That’s 365 gifts.
Because there is a powerful exchange in giving.

My first gift is to you.
The Promise 365 is morphing into The Promise Daily. My gift to you is to help you stay on track with your goals.

What do you want more of?
What kind of magnet do you want to hold to the world?
What will you attract?

Just kidding about the crack remark.
Wanted to make sure you were following along.

But seriously…
What do you want to magnetize in your life?
What ball will you drop?
What will you ask 2013 to bring you?

What is your Happy New Year?

Day 364: Dear 2012 :: Forgive. Forget. Forge Forward.

31 Dec

We are on our way to New York City…
To Times Square….
To watch the ball drop us all into the wee hours of 2013.

champagne, new year's eve, thepromise365.com, jamie eslinger

It makes me realize there are so many things that run on auto-pilot until something comes along forcing us to snap out of it!

New Year’s Eve is one of those moments.

It’s one of those “snap out of it” things — forcing me to look into the oncoming year and vow to make it better, faster, smarter, bigger, more ____________.

It’s also what allows me to look with eyes wide open into the mistakes of my past.

Which brings me to this:
I messed up.
I made a mistake.
I lost track.

Here it is, the last day of 2012….
In a Leap Year…
Which should have 366 days…

And the top of my blog says Day 364.

How did that happen?
Where did I go wrong?
What part of auto-pilot didn’t work?

I spent a few minutes looking back over my posts and can’t find the offending days that decided not to show up.

In the middle of my frantic research I realized I could spend another year investigating, beating myself up, and questioning the issue…

Or I could Cowboy Up and move on.

I chose the latter.

Because, after spending an entire year learning to fear less and love more, I have learned something so precious and sacred.

It is this:

We all deserve love.
And we all make mistakes.

Nobody’s perfect.

Sometimes it’s the imperfections that create the biggest lessons, best character, and most surprising moments.

Sometimes it’s the unplanned plans that lead to the most perfect path.

Sometimes, it’s not worth questioning what should have been, might have been…
Should have…
Would have…
Could have….

Sometimes the best action is just to move forward — from where you are. And, that, I believe, may be the most fearless act of all.

So today is Day 364.
In a year of 366 days.

In a way, I like keeping a spot for two extra days, holding a flame, and an unwritten page for the gift we are all given — time.

Speaking of Father Time — he’s calling my name.
Yours too.

Because I think we’re really going to make it through 2012, despite what all the Mayans and naysayers seem to believe.

So I will say it now…. Happy 2013.

Let’s move Fearlessly Forward despite any of the mistakes, messes or miscalculations.

Let’s leave the “oops” behind.
Forgive. Forget. Forge forward.

All my love,

P.S. Tomorrow is a new year and a new promise — and I can’t wait to share with you!! Plus, this next year, you can join in here.
