JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 192 :: ice cream joy

11 Jul
{waiting}

I didn’t eat ice cream tonight but I watched a whole group of little kids wait in line for an ice cream cone. It was pure joy.

They were overjoyed when I gave up my table for them to sit down. They were overjoyed when their numbers were called one by one. And they were overjoyed to dig into their ice cream cones.

It made me realize that half the fun of joy is the anticipation… the waiting with pure anticipation that something amazing is about to happen. I have had my share of waiting in life, and usually, it’s for bad news. But JOY is teaching me that anticipation is the best kind of waiting.

Here’s to the joy of waiting.

More tomorrow…

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY :: 101 flavors of joy

10 Apr
{choosing}

I was thinking about ice cream today. And chocolate. And chocolate ice cream. What joy!

The best part of ice cream is choosing your flavor. Which brings me back to joy. Just like your favorite color, shouldn’t it be just as easy to choose your flavor of joy?

Maybe it’s skiing, or dancing, or writing, or drawing or listening or sleeping (why not?) — point is… Joy should be your choice, your flavor, your color.

So what’s your flavor?

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 82 :: the joy of ice cream

25 Mar
{sunday}

It’s Sunday Night… and what’s better than a sundae? Eating ice cream right out of the tub. Which we did. Why not?!

Joy has me thinking about all the ways to play, and have fun, and experience more. So why not say yes to ice cream — straight from the tub?

What can you say yes to?

More tomorrow…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 149 :: ice cream yoga

2 Jun

Day 149: Funny.

Yoga done. Ice cream eaten.
And this is what the bottom of a bowl of chocolate ice cream looks like…after it has been eaten.

Which makes me wonder… does
Ice Cream + Yoga = 0 Calories?

Hope comes in many flavors.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 346 :: eating ice cream

16 Dec

Last night I wrote about ice cream. Tonight I ate some.

Earlier this week one of my Aunt’s declared that sometimes I cheat on this blog…. meaning I don’t always write a long one. Some times I phone it in, paste a quote, keep it short, etc. She’s right. It’s true. And tonight is one of those nights.

But I promise to show up. And sometimes showing up is all that matters.

Want a replay from last night?
“There is a joy in the actual taste of vanilla ice cream that does not come from knowing the chemical formula of vanilla. There is a joy, an inherent aliveness in the body that you can experience if you pay attention to your body. But if you live up in your head, in your words all the time, you don’t notice it.”

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 345 :: better than ice cream

15 Dec

Peak performance moment of the day:  this quote below.
Received from a friend, and reader of The Promise Daily. Sharing with you now:

“There is a joy in the actual taste of vanilla ice cream that does not come from knowing the chemical formula of vanilla. There is a joy, an inherent aliveness in the body that you can experience if you pay attention to your body. But if you live up in your head, in your words all the time, you don’t notice it.”

I have to be a fan of anything that compares life to ice cream.
Here’s to tasting more and thinking less.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 317 :: surprise sweet treat

15 Nov

So this may have nothing to do with Peak Performance… but boy was it good!

I was hungry. And after complaining about being hungry for well, I don’t know, Justin decided to help out.

So he mixed up everything we had in the refrigerator…. including…

1 Banana
2 Oreo Cookies
Ice Cream
Milk
Blackberry Jam
Red Vine (for the straw)

And voila!

Not healthy at all… but so, so, good.
Sometimes peak performance is just mixing together what you’ve got. Sometimes it bombs and sometimes it’s AMAZING!

But you never know if you don’t try… or maybe complain.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

 {what can you mix up?}

Here’s my little Portland “aha” of the day….

Whether you like ice cream or beer…. there’s something for everyone in Portland.

What’s your pick?

2014 BLOG – DAY 7 :: peak performance: lift

7 Jan

Ice Cream and Downton Abbey.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t a recipe for Peak Performance, but here I sit with a bowl of ice cream and screen full of Downton Abbey reruns.

Every girl needs a day to cheat, right?

Speaking of cheating, I discovered a new site tonight, one that helps with your diet goals — whatever they may be. It’s aptly called:  Lift Quantified Diet.

You choose the diet of you dreams, be it Paleo or Vegetarian, or something else in the choices of 10 diets …and then report your results, get daily support, and hopeful lose those pounds.

It’s billed as the largest randomized trial of popular diet. (They are designing the study with advice from researchers at UC Berkeley and Stanford.)

It’s intriguing for sure.  But all that aside, it has me thinking about the word LIFT.

Raise to a higher position or level. Elevate. Hoist. Heave!
Yes, that seems to fit my promise of peak performance.

Who knows what I will find out this year as the promise unfolds.
Right now I am enjoying a bowl of ice cream and the decadence of Downton Abbey.

Heave ho!

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 175 :: ice cream makes it better

24 Jun

Ice cream is almost magical in the summer.

And, today, it totally made my day better. After seeing my new doctor and being giving the news that surgery is my next step (the thyroid has to go!) all I wanted to do was PIG OUT on some ice cream.

Salt and Straw to the rescue!
This wasn’t just any ice cream — it was PEAR and BLUE CHEESE ice cream and a scoop of Woodblock chocolate too. Seriously one of the best culinary taste bud experiences I’ve ever had.

It’s so good, it almost makes having to return to Portland for an upcoming surgery sweet enough to swallow.

More tomorrow.
