JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 126 :: clean bill of bliss

11 May
Whew! What a day. We are finally home after a roundabout trip to Portland and back, this time carrying a clean bill of health home!

I think I will say that again. CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH. I was expecting it but it’s so nice to actually have it in hand, tucked inside my pocket (or maybe I should say between my new cleavage!). Regardless where it goes I am holding onto it and the BLISS that it brings me.

The other blissful moments of today included… bringing my own “Janes” wellness gown (instead of Johnnies)… the day after I interviewed the founder and visionary of GetJanes,com, Sharon Linder (more coming soon on that!).

You can bring your own gown too! Check it out. They are so soft and comfy and make you feel so cozy even when you’re all naked and vulnerable at the doctor’s office. I think it’s one little step that helps you take control of your medical experience…. and they are so comfy!

They are so comfy …I actually wore my Jane later in the day too! At a spa!

Justin TOTALLY surprised me with a side trip to a spa, an out-of-the-way stop on our way home to celebrate the good news day. We soaked in this outdoor mineral bath at Belknap Resort…. and it was heaven! Outside, next to a river and floral garden… and my favorite kind of warm (hot water!).

It’s enough to make me want to have more blissdays to celebrate my wellness. (And I think you should too!!)

More tomorrow.

  {happy blissday}

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 309 :: get janes

7 Nov
Yesterday I did something new. I brought my own gown with me to the doctor. It was complements of Get Janes whose mission is to bring more dignity and empowerment to women during mammograms, breast health exams and physician appointments.

I have to admit, I felt a little funny telling Maureen, my nurse, that I had my own gown in tow. But as I showed her the beautiful carrying bag and pulled out the soft white gown she was pleased as punch. Mostly because of all the laundry that the hospital has to send out each day of used gowns.

And that makes sense.

It also made me feel a small, itty bit more in control of my appointment. Kind of like the thrill of the first moment when I was a toddler and decided to choose my own clothing.  And if there is one moment in time when a woman wants a tiny bit more control it is right before she bares her breasts to the boob smashing machine, a.k.a. a mammogram.

Of course, I did not have a mammogram yesterday, just a doctor’s exam since there is no more breast tissue left on my chest. Even still, I felt confident in the super soft fabric gown that completely covered my body. Bonus! The gowns are long — even on six foot me!

And that definitely makes for a more comfortable experience. Maybe it’s not a peak performance, but it’s certainly better than feeling bare AND naked before getting your tatas squeezed!

I’m a fan. Thank you Janes. And, it’s nice to know that every purchase helps fund mammograms for women in need.

If you know someone who could use a little more coverage or control for their next mammogram appointment, send her to Janes!

More tomorrow.

 {what makes you feel comfortable?}
