JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 145 :: practicing joy

23 May
{joy breaks}

Today, the Joy Breaks continue… In fact, in the Joy Break department, I received a message from a dear friend wondering what I am doing for a Joy Break… as in, how do they work.

So here’s what I wrote back to her:
____

I’m using music for short bursts. Spotify is my friend.

I did a fast meditation yesterday where I saw a white light go through every cell of my body and fill it with joy (a little out there but it felt great).

I walked Pup outside, even though he is so delicate right now and really tried to ignore his skin and bones body and instead connect with him as he was soaking up the sunshine.

Then, when I looked at social media, I read everyone’s updates on my feed and smiled at each one, trying to be genuinely excited for each of them – because admittedly, sometimes social media just makes me jealous 😉

I might use this for my post tonight… it’s a good question.

And I did use this for my post tonight!
So the question is… What is your Joy Break?

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 144 :: breathing joy

22 May
{joy breaks}

For my Joy Break today, I went to the beach.

For just a few minutes, but they were well worth it. Feet in the sand (and butt in the sand) it was a good reminder to sit firmly on the ground and breathe in fresh air.

When I finally left the hot sandy beach and put myself back into my car, I had a sudden urge. I wanted to call my mom. I almost reached for the phone to dial her up before I stopped myself and shook my head.

I haven’t felt that urge in so many years. I mean, of course, I think of my dear Mama Sling all the time. But I haven’t actually had a brain to muscle reaction to actually pick up the phone and dial her number in so, so long.

It was a familiar feeling. I used to call her at her office …like every single day. I’m sure my calls were annoying and interrupting, and yet, also eagerly anticipated. These days, I wouldn’t even know what number to call to reach her.

But today, I had a physical reaction to reach out to her. As if she was right there next to me and I just wanted to talk to her or hug her tightly.

I guess that is what happens when you breathe in fresh air. It goes straight to the brain. And then everything else falls away until you are only left with what matters most. What joy.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 143 :: joy breaks

21 May
{small wins}

I’ve decided to start taking Joy Breaks. Specifically, finding small, moments of joyfulness in my day. They can be tiny, minuscule and even invisible. Doesn’t matter. Because letting in joy is like letting sunshine into a dark room – it shines and expands at light speed.

So, here’s to joy breaks…lots of joy breaks!
What’s your Joy Break?

More tomorrow…
