JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 202 :: joyful friday

20 Jul
{weekend}

It’s a joyful Friday night! Good food. Good friends. Good feels. Good Friday!

Why does Friday feel so joyful even if you stay at home in your pajamas? Maybe it’s the satisfaction of surviving. Making it through to the other side of the week. Perhaps it’s the anticipation of the weekend ahead. Or, maybe, it’s the good vibes of a good night’s sleep that awaits.

Friday nights might be the most joyful night of the week, with a full weekend ahead and a full week behind. It’s the fulcrum, the middle, the jumping off point for joy.

Happy Friday!

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 198 :: joy is new and old

16 Jul
{joyful}

Today I started anew. New job. New office. New coworkers. New experiences but all in my old stomping ground. Old and new. What a great combination.

It’s like meeting an old friend with a new facelift, it’s familiar and new. It’s a joyful combination, old +  new.

What joy.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 157 :: thoughts of joy

5 Jun
{no plans}

It’s funny how much time I spend planning, and then how much joy I get from the spontaneous (good) surprises in life. It has me thinking that sometimes, joy is not having a plan.  But it’s so hard to plan on that! How ironic.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 154 :: puppy joy

2 Jun
{smile}

Nothing can bring out a smile better than a puppy. Serendipitously, we found both today.

My day started by looking out the back sliding door. I was thinking of Pup, and all the times we walked the grass out that door, and how strange everything feels without him around. Then, out of nowhere a little blue hummingbird flew right in front of the window, up to the tree and then disappeared. A hummingbird! I have never seen a hummingbird out the door, or windows, or anywhere on our grounds at all.

“It’s a message from Pup!” I exclaimed and excitedly relayed what I saw to Justin. Then I looked up the symbolic meaning of hummingbirds:

It is not commonly known that the fluttering wings of the hummingbird move in the pattern of an infinity symbol – further solidifying their symbolism of eternity, continuity, and infinity. … The prime message of the hummingbird animal totem is: “The sweetest nectar is within!”

My heart leapt with joy. It was a message from Pup. He was telling us that he is okay, we will always be connected and it’s okay to move on.

So we continued our day. Beginning with a stop at Pet Smart to find Brady a new bed. After losing Pup he’s seemed a little lost. So we are, of course, spoiling him with attention and treats. It only seemed fair that he should get a new bed, just for him.

We headed to Pet Smart. Where there was a whole crop of tiny little puppies. They were adorable and all cuddled up next to each other, so of course, everyone wanted to pick them up.

As I knelt next to the makeshift coup created in the middle of the Pet Smart aisle, about to pick up an adorable and squirmy little puppy I heard a little voice behind me. It was a girl. She wanted to see the puppies. I turned and smiled at her and said, “Do you want to pet the puppies?” She nodded. I moved out of the way.

Then, her dad picked up one of the black, furry pups and placed it in her arms. She was so tiny, the pup almost dwarfed her. But her smile was bigger than both her and the puppy combined.

I really can’t think of anything more joyous to witness. A little one holding a little one. My heart beat harder and it made me smile right back at her. What joy!

And exactly what that hummingbird’s message was all about: life goes on and the sweetest nectar is within….our hearts.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 153 :: travel joy

1 Jun
{rocking}

While waiting in SeaTac airport today I found a moment of joy. It was as simple as rocking in a rocking chair. SeaTac has a row of rocking chairs in the airporter waiting area and all I could think was… brilliant!

Just rocking back and forth brings me such relaxation. And reminds me of Mama Sling. What a beautiful and joyful combination!

Rock on.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 142 :: sandy beaches

20 May
{joy}

In thinking about joy today, I started making a mental list. It included all the things that bring me joy. There are so many items on the list but one came top of mind: bare feet and sandy beaches.

Isn’t it always the simple joys that matter most?

Then I started to wonder, what if we only thought of joyful thoughts? All day, every day. What impact would that make on the world, our life, our family, our friends and our day?

Could simple joy turn the world around?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 141 :: saturday joy

19 May
{weekend joy}

Today joy has me thinking about beautiful journeys. I travelled to Seattle and back again today, on an acupuncture adventure. Every time I go I have a total and complete sense of serenity. I also get visions.

They come to me as I am on the table. Popping into my head like pictures. Sometimes, they are familiar, like I have seen them before. Maybe a past memory or two. Other times they are foreign and delightful, like a glimpse of my future.

The past and future are intertwined with a golden thread. I suppose that is what is most beautiful about all journeys. Remembering the past and seeing the future.

Thank you, joy, for the reminder.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 124 :: sunny days and longer nights

3 May
{oh joy}

The days are getting longer, the sun is getting brighter and the air feels lighter around here. Oh, joy!

Sunshine brings me so much joy. And joy can be so simple when we watch for the simple signs… like sunlight shining through the air.

So simple. So true. So joyful. And…So much better when shared with someone you love.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 116 :: the joy mindset

25 Apr
{a choice}

Joy is… a choice and a mindset. At least that’s what I hear. I started listening to a book on joy today:  Joy on Demand The Art of Discovering the Happiness Within (thanks Judy!)

As I listened I thought about the times in my life that were good and bad – and how joy played a part in it. Joy can always be present, even in the worst of circumstances. Because joy is a mindset and a choice.

Joy is not a matter of circumstance. It is a choice in the matter.
Ah, joy… you keep sending me these good reminders and lessons. And I want you to know, I am listening.

Jamie
