JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 133 :: new adventures

11 May
{joyful}

I love a good adventure.

Maybe that’s why every year I make a promise. It’s always an adventure and usually, not the kind I could expect or anticipate, but somehow yearned for or needed.

This year, I am looking for an adventure of joy. Who knows where it will take me… but isn’t that the key to love?

What’s your adventure?

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 113 :: the joy of loudness

22 Apr
{make some noise}

I was around many children this week during my travels and there is one thing that sticks out in my mind. They are loud with their joy.

And shouldn’t joy be loud?

I suppose there is a place for quiet joy, gentle revelry, and silent excitement. But the best part of joy should be big and bold and sometimes, very, very loud.

So go out there and be loud with your joy. If you don’t… who else will?

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 59 :: the gift of friends

1 Mar
{joy-filled}

Sometimes the best gifts in life are people. Especially the people who can see your life even better and more clear than you possibly ever could yourself. That’s what I call a true friend.

And I like to call my true friends too! Tonight I was on the phone with one for three hours — three hours! It’s a good thing that we never run out of anything to say to each other. It’s even better to be seen.

I think a true friend is one who can believe in the other person’s best life, beautiful gifts, and biggest goals. No matter what today looks like.

Joy is the gift of a friend.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 57 :: sunshine & joy

27 Feb
{breakthrough)

Sometimes the breakthrough comes after the break… and today, the sun broke through the clouds outside my window. If only for a moment.

It had me thinking about the joy of spring. And how I cannot wait to experience more of it.

My heart is calling for spring. And our world is certainly calling for more joy. May they both sprout forth.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 54 :: joyous investing

24 Feb
{invest}

My first Kiva! And I couldn’t be more proud.

This is the introduction of Pretty Pockets, a company that is empowering moms with nothing but elegant and practical accessories they are proud to wear.

I love this diaper bag backpack that also holds a bottle and diaper changer inside this very stylish package. It is a Kiva project that I participated in by giving a small loan to a woman with a big dream.

The irony is that it was a wedding gift to Justin and I… and it keeps on giving. I love following the development of the brand and the product as well as Madhu‘s updates in the process.

It brings me great joy. I don’t know if it’s the investment in someone else’s dream more than the return I get in my heart. But, joy it is.

And that has me thinking about investments. And investment in someone else’s dream is a contribution to your heart with exponential returns.

Pretty Pockets, indeed!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 37 :: the joy of living

8 Feb
{and loving}

My promise is giving me a bit of a joyride so far this year. Joy….has me thinking about joyousness, if that’s a word! And what it means to create joyfulness every day.

Today, I found myself puppy sitting a total Angel. She is eleven weeks of puppyness, high energy and cat naps included. We played fetch. And pooped. We ate treats. And pooped. We sat. And pooped. And then napped. And then pooped some more.

It’s a marvel really, to be a puppy. So little and so big at the same time. Above all, it was marvelous to witness the pure energy of being new to this life. The light coming in the window! The smell of new shoes! The absolute and total delight of pooping!

It made me reflect on joy — and the act of both loving and being totally alive. It is truly loving and living at the same time.

Another lesson in joy.
(and pooping.)

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 35 :: win and lose

4 Feb
{next year}

It’s always hard to lose. And that’s the hardest part of sports, sporting or being a sports fan. Someone always loses. “There’s always next year,” was coined for a night like this.

And yet, on the other side, there is a winner. A first-time victory and the joy of bringing home a trophy. History in the record books. So many elated sports fans. The first taste of victory.

It’s the light and the dark. The sun and the shade. One needs the other to exist. For that contrast.

Tonight I felt that contrast as my heart beat so fast inside of me I could barely breathe. I so wanted the Patriots to win. Not because the team has been there before. Not because it was Tom Brady, the GOAT in the game. Not because I have watch him play since his days at Michigan or because we spent most of our adult life in Boston. It was because Justin was at the game.

I just wanted them to win so that he could see it. Experience it. Take it all in.

Of course, this is where you say, “Oh, it’s just a game.” And it is. But it’s making me think about JOY — and what it takes to feel joyful — do we need the low to understand the high? Does the winner need the loser to feel victory?

The answer is most likely, yes, in both instances.

And yet, it sucks to lose. In the whatever game you play. Always. But the point may be to find joy in the game. To honor the ability to play. Or to just be there. Win or lose.

Congratulations Philly – may you enjoy every moment of this joyous occasion.
And… for the rest of us…there’s always next year 😉

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 30 :: oh joyous everyday

30 Jan
{every single day}

I was thinking about everyday joy today. You know, the kind of joys that we take for granted. Or, at least I do.

Things like…

  • Spotify (seriously! Any kind of music I want at the touch of my fingertips)
  • Fun people to work with and kind friends to catch up with
  • Yummy dinners cooked by my sweet hubby
  • Puppies sleeping at my feet
  • Dark chocolate
  • Hot tea
  • Netflix
  • Yarn

It’s always about the little things.
Always.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 29 :: rainy joy

29 Jan
{singing in the rain}

It rained all day today. There were little bits of sun through the clouds but mostly it poured. Joy has me looking at rain through new eyes. And asking questions.

Like…How does one enjoy the rain when it’s pouring rain?
And your car broke down.

In the end, at the end of the day, everything was fixed (with the car). And even though Mother Nature was still sweeping through town with torrential downpours, all is well. And wet.

Maybe that’s part of becoming more joyous – learning how to sing in the rain. I think it starts with a song on the radio. Then maybe a whistle. And finally, a wail at the top of your lungs in the shower serenade.

I might still be in the whistling stage. But I’m learning to sing!
After that… who knows, I might even dance.

Oh. Joy!

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie
