JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 348 :: joy is a clearing a path

16 Dec

{clear}

This year of JOY has been teaching me so much about adding joy to my life. New friends, new job, new home, new places, and new faces. But it is also teaching me about the art of clearing a path.

You see, joy lives in each of us. It resides in the fabric of our being. Our job is just to clear a path for JOY to be set free.

So I’m learning it’s not so much about adding things to create joy, or buying things or eating things or creating things. It’s actually about removing the things that don’t allow joy to bubble up.

Removing pain clears a path for joy to rise. THIS is the real discovery I have made in these twelve months of joy. Joy is all about clearing a path, letting go of pain and setting yourself free.

Here’s to being clear.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 256 joy is good memories

18 Sep

{Pup}

Tonight at dinner, I was asked if I had pets. Of course, the answer is yes. I immediately found photos of Brady and then had to also show off a photo of Pup. Just that simple act reminded me how much JOY that dog brought to our lives. Any pet, really, has lasting effects and lingering affections that make up random acts of joyousness.

So many good times and good memories come from our pets.  What joy to be shared, to be savored and to be stored in memories forever.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 229 :: be joy

18 Aug

{seeing the signs}

I saw the sign today. Be Joy! It was in the middle of downtown Portland, Oregon. And the rest of the day was full of joyous adventure.

In fact, we took a joy ride to the beach. Cannon Beach to be exact and stood in the shadow of Haystack Rock.

I remember traveling here with my dear Mama Sling who loved the Oregon Coast. What a joyous reunion with memories and love and beach and sand.  Some memories are as solid as a rock.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 225 :: joy is the little stuff

14 Aug
{roses}

I love surprise joy. And today when I arrived home there was a little surprise for me in the bathroom. It was a rose made out of toilet paper. The cleaners came today and left this beautiful little token of care. I loved it.

It certainly brought me joy. Just the mere cleaning alone brought me massive amounts of joyousness. Add to that a little toilet paper wrapped into a rose and you have the recipe for spontaneous joy.

Joy is certainly the little things!
How can you bring someone joy today?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 133 :: new adventures

11 May
{joyful}

I love a good adventure.

Maybe that’s why every year I make a promise. It’s always an adventure and usually, not the kind I could expect or anticipate, but somehow yearned for or needed.

This year, I am looking for an adventure of joy. Who knows where it will take me… but isn’t that the key to love?

What’s your adventure?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 113 :: the joy of loudness

22 Apr
{make some noise}

I was around many children this week during my travels and there is one thing that sticks out in my mind. They are loud with their joy.

And shouldn’t joy be loud?

I suppose there is a place for quiet joy, gentle revelry, and silent excitement. But the best part of joy should be big and bold and sometimes, very, very loud.

So go out there and be loud with your joy. If you don’t… who else will?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 59 :: the gift of friends

1 Mar
{joy-filled}

Sometimes the best gifts in life are people. Especially the people who can see your life even better and more clear than you possibly ever could yourself. That’s what I call a true friend.

And I like to call my true friends too! Tonight I was on the phone with one for three hours — three hours! It’s a good thing that we never run out of anything to say to each other. It’s even better to be seen.

I think a true friend is one who can believe in the other person’s best life, beautiful gifts, and biggest goals. No matter what today looks like.

Joy is the gift of a friend.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 57 :: sunshine & joy

27 Feb
{breakthrough)

Sometimes the breakthrough comes after the break… and today, the sun broke through the clouds outside my window. If only for a moment.

It had me thinking about the joy of spring. And how I cannot wait to experience more of it.

My heart is calling for spring. And our world is certainly calling for more joy. May they both sprout forth.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 54 :: joyous investing

24 Feb
{invest}

My first Kiva! And I couldn’t be more proud.

This is the introduction of Pretty Pockets, a company that is empowering moms with nothing but elegant and practical accessories they are proud to wear.

I love this diaper bag backpack that also holds a bottle and diaper changer inside this very stylish package. It is a Kiva project that I participated in by giving a small loan to a woman with a big dream.

The irony is that it was a wedding gift to Justin and I… and it keeps on giving. I love following the development of the brand and the product as well as Madhu‘s updates in the process.

It brings me great joy. I don’t know if it’s the investment in someone else’s dream more than the return I get in my heart. But, joy it is.

And that has me thinking about investments. And investment in someone else’s dream is a contribution to your heart with exponential returns.

Pretty Pockets, indeed!
