JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9
finding the funny – 15 days to go
{trust}

There are 15 days left of The Promise 365!

Tonight, we laughed. I love to laugh even though at times I forget to laugh. When I am overwhelmed and overthinking and under stress and super focused, well, those are the times I forget to laugh even if I am smiling.

Fortunately, I married a man that brings me laughter. I call him the Captain of Fun. He brings the funny and he always reminds me to lighten up. Justin has been my captain in many ways but over the last nine years, he has been the King of Laughter. He makes me watch funny things, he sends me stupid links to stupid jokes that make me laugh out loud. He makes funny faces. He makes me cringe until I cry with laughter.

He is on a mission to make me laugh (and find a brand of beer that I will actually drink – of which he has yet to be successful – however that’s another story for another day)… but back to the laughter. When my mood goes beyond the happy zone and into the hangry, sad, upset, frustrated, stressed to the max zone it wakes Justin up and puts him into pure mission mode: make Jamie laugh. And somehow he does. Every. Time. He is good at this job, one that he doesn’t take lightly.

And I am grateful.

Laughter is a gift and lightness is a joy. It’s even better when it’s exponentially shared.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 272 :: happy

1 Oct

{trust}

I laughed a lot today. At a doctor’s appointment no less. I had my annual exam and pap smear, which I find to be the funniest word ever. Smear. Like it’s some sort of topping for toast. It isn’t, by the way, in case you have never had one.

Right before the pap smear ensued I was asked to dress down and don the fabled paper gown. So I did, except for my bra, because you know, the girls are fake so it doesn’t matter anymore. I guess I forgot to tell my new doctor this because when she started my annual exam she opened up my gown and frowned at me. “Why are you wearing your bra?”

I looked at her and laughed. “Oh, I forgot to tell you, these are fake.”

She laughed. I laughed even harder.
Then she said, “You’re right, don’t need to examine those.”

As we laughed even harder I realized that I forgot to tell her something else. Two night ago I did a body scrub made with Turmeric which turned the bathtub and my toes and fingers temporarily yellow. As I explained this to my new doctor I warned her that I may have other skin parts that were yellow from it too, so not to be alarmed.

She laughed again.
I laughed all the way through the procedure.
She called me “Tumeric Toes.”
And then we laughed some more.

I have never had more fun at a doctor’s office. Or laughed harder. Which is a welcome change in my life and truly underscores the theory that laughter is the best medicine.

And, joy is a simple thing. A very powerful, simple thing.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 222 :: trust in laughter

10 Aug

{trust}

We have laughed a lot today. We have laughed at movies, good ones and bad. We have laughed at the inside jokes that have piled up over years and decades and a lifetime of knowing each other. We have laughed at things that nobody else would probably find funny except for the two of us who have lived through the ups and downs and in-betweens together. There is power in that sort of laughter.

Inside that laughter, I have found a great lightness and within that is a beautiful reminder. Sometimes all you need is laughter.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 117 :: trust in laughter

27 Apr

{trust}

Today was date day. Usually, this kind of fun would be reserved for date night but since it was a Saturday we had a whole day and a new movie, a dog park and a long nap to get caught up on.

  For a long week behind, laughter is the cure for a good week ahead.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 190 :: joy is laughter

8 Jul
{laughing out loud}

Joy is late night laughter. It’s almost midnight, which means I have mere moments to post this blog on time. Too much laughter and late night games makes a girl late with her blog post. Here’s to that! Oh, joy.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 170 :: laughter in your joy

19 Jun
{enjoy}

Find a little laughter in your joy

We just landed. Vacation over. There is nothing worse than the realization that vacation is over. Okay, maybe there are worse situations, but in the category of joy, this one is a buzzkill.

The saving grace of our flight home was the in-flight entertainment TV screens. Thank you Jet Blue. And TSA Pre-Check, too! Thank you Brent, the best travel agent I have ever used. And also, the only travel agent I have ever used. I didn’t know they still existed, travel agents. Extinct from the invasion of the internet booking sites, I thought they were a lost breed. It turns out they are alive and well… and amazing at their jobs too.

So tonight, dear Joy, thank you for taking care of us. From breezing through airport security lines to giggles and laughter on the plane.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 162 :: the joy of games

10 Jun
{laughter}

I learned the card game “Speed” this weekend by two little girls who play it much faster than I do. I was so bad at it, it made me laugh. I had more laughter than “game” in me but I suppose that is the point.

It reminds me that games are better when they come with laughter.
What joy.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 14 :: laughter and joy

14 Jan
{entertainment}

We watched the movie, The Money Pit tonight — a movie that made us all laugh.  Out loud.

The slapstick comedy that plays on the fears of every homeowner just doesn’t seem to get old — even this many years later.

It has me thinking about joy — the joy of entertaining. The joy of going to the movies. The joy of laughing OUT loud. Which reminds me that there is truth in comedy. It’s like the string that pulls open the gates for the laughter to spill out.

And maybe that helps let the joy in?

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 286 :: 4-letter word friday

13 Oct

Good.

As in, The Good Place. To round out this week I am in full-on wool socks, sweats, and hoodie sitting on the floor with a blankie watching TV. I can’t think of anything more “good” than laughing on a Friday night.

Laughter is kind.

More tomorrow…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 92 :: more laughter flowering

5 Apr

Springy.

As I was driving listening to the radio today, absorbing too much talk radio and politics and blabbering on… I realized I need more laughter.

And then I found this:

I think we could all use more laughter. And, maybe as the flowers pop their heads up out of the ground I will remember to stop and smell the laughter.

Wouldn’t that be kind?

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie
