JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 170 :: laughter in your joy

19 Jun
{enjoy}

Find a little laughter in your joy

We just landed. Vacation over. There is nothing worse than the realization that vacation is over. Okay, maybe there are worse situations, but in the category of joy, this one is a buzzkill.

The saving grace of our flight home was the in-flight entertainment TV screens. Thank you Jet Blue. And TSA Pre-Check, too! Thank you Brent, the best travel agent I have ever used. And also, the only travel agent I have ever used. I didn’t know they still existed, travel agents. Extinct from the invasion of the internet booking sites, I thought they were a lost breed. It turns out they are alive and well… and amazing at their jobs too.

So tonight, dear Joy, thank you for taking care of us. From breezing through airport security lines to giggles and laughter on the plane.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 162 :: the joy of games

10 Jun
{laughter}

I learned the card game “Speed” this weekend by two little girls who play it much faster than I do. I was so bad at it, it made me laugh. I had more laughter than “game” in me but I suppose that is the point.

It reminds me that games are better when they come with laughter.
What joy.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 14 :: laughter and joy

14 Jan
{entertainment}

We watched the movie, The Money Pit tonight — a movie that made us all laugh.  Out loud.

The slapstick comedy that plays on the fears of every homeowner just doesn’t seem to get old — even this many years later.

It has me thinking about joy — the joy of entertaining. The joy of going to the movies. The joy of laughing OUT loud. Which reminds me that there is truth in comedy. It’s like the string that pulls open the gates for the laughter to spill out.

And maybe that helps let the joy in?

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 286 :: 4-letter word friday

13 Oct

Good.

As in, The Good Place. To round out this week I am in full-on wool socks, sweats, and hoodie sitting on the floor with a blankie watching TV. I can’t think of anything more “good” than laughing on a Friday night.

Laughter is kind.

More tomorrow…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 92 :: more laughter flowering

5 Apr

Springy.

As I was driving listening to the radio today, absorbing too much talk radio and politics and blabbering on… I realized I need more laughter.

And then I found this:

I think we could all use more laughter. And, maybe as the flowers pop their heads up out of the ground I will remember to stop and smell the laughter.

Wouldn’t that be kind?

More tomorrow….

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 81 :: laughter

25 Mar

Kind.

It’s been a stay in bed and cough sort of day. Along with popsicles, I have added a little Grace and Frankie. Season Three. It seems like the kind thing to do, to laugh a little while resting a lot.

I especially appreciate the laughs delivered from iconic female leads, in their seventies. it gives me hope – hope that as I age women of all ages will continue to break barriers, create new standards, and keep making the jokes about the life circumstances that are just crazy enough to make us all laugh.

There is kindness in laughter.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 283 :: the funny bone

14 Oct
Today’s Bliss….. my funny bone.

Laughter. It hurts so good. I have been listening to Amy Poehler’s book Yes Please intermittently. I downloaded it for free with the tokens in my Audible account. It seemed to strike the perfect balance of fun, friendly, upbeat and quirky – perfect for a ten-hour drive for the great move north.

Except for one problem.

I couldn’t figure out how to play the audio book on my phone’s Audible account through the car stereo, without internet, while I was driving. And I ran out of time packing an avalanche of boxes in our living room to find a moment to Google the instructions. So the book that was to accompany me on our great drive north never made it out of the box.

So, here I am, sitting at my desk, listening to the audio version of Yes Please laughing my ass off. Actually, it’s my funny bone that hurts.

And that reminds me of something I knew as a very curious little girl who wrapped rubber bands around the sink sprayer so an unexpected stream of water could greet the next person to wash dishes in the kitchen…

Funny is good.
Laughter is precious.
Comedy is bliss.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 278 :: it’s the laughter

10 Oct
Today’s Bliss…..laughter.

Here’s what I have to say about moving. It sucks. Really sucks. It so many ways. But it’s so worth it. Tonight, as we sat around the table being taught the ins and outs of how to play Old Maid (again) by a nine-year-old, I was reminded why all the hassle of moving is so worth it.

It’s the laughter.

The laughter of little girls. Of family. of three generations all sitting around the same table. It’s blissful really. And it makes me smile.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 260 :: relishing the funny

22 Sep
This hit me tonight in my Aha Place. I’m not sure why it’s taken so long… but here it is …laughter.

It could have happened while I was working and listening to The Tonight Show.
Or maybe we are just in a time of rediscovering our laughs. Take a look at this:

We seem to be in a trajectory and upward swing of laughter. And I’m not sure what that means. Other than this. Laughter feels good.

And maybe that’s the easiest path to Bliss? Regardless, it’s worth exploring and laughing along the way.

More tomorrow.
