JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 245 :: welcome fall

2 Sep

It’s time, it’s here, it’s Fall. For intents and purposes. Labor Day and all the unlaboring is over. I’m ready to receive Fall and all her glory, long football weekends, hot tea mornings, leaves turning.

As I was driving today I spotted a leaf. It was turned upside down like a teacup and the wind was driving it down the street. It looked like a little leaf car although I’m sure there were no passengers. But there it was driving down the street, or rather with the wind pushing it, as if it knew where to go. If there is any sign that Fall is coming, well, there it was!

Welcome Fall. Bring on the hot cocoa and lightly woven sweaters.

Let’s get warm and cozy!

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 242 :: this little leaf of mine

30 Aug

I’m gonna let it shine.

This little leaf landed on my computer. I like this photo for the contrast. The red and the black and silver make for a nice pop of color.

I also like the contrast of technology and nature.

It’s a KIND reminder to me – to get outside. To not sit at my desk ALL day long. And to stop and smell the fresh fall air trying to circle all around me.

I like how this little leaf tells me such a big story. Pick up a leaf, take a break, and be kind to yourself.

More tomorrow….

{being kind}

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 308 :: blissful leafs a leaving

8 Nov

Today’s bliss…a heart.

Really, it was a leaf.

But in the twilight of night, sitting on its side with a little illumination from the street lamps… it looks like a heart.

And it seems fitting, sitting right there on the sidewalk, marking the spot I will pass in the morning with my roller bag suitcase and computer briefcase in tow.  Another adventure beings. Chicago, here I come….

…Heart and all.

More tomorrow.

{new adventure?}

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 38 :: gifts of bliss

7 Feb
Some gifts are thoughtful, some are expensive, and some are priceless.

Like this one, that was given to my by two little boys today:

It’s enough to melt my heart. And bring me a moment of bliss.

More tomorrow.

  {what gift do you have to give?}

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 255 :: the first sign of fall

12 Sep

Every night I write on this blog, and share some reflections or ideas or photos or something that seems so incredible profound. In the moment. For my current promise of peak performance.

Many times I wake up the next morning and what seemed so big and deep and profound is just yesterday’s news.

So today I share the profundity of the day.

A leaf.  A heart-shaped leaf. That fell from a tree.
And in this moment it seems like an incredible shift in the seasons.

Maybe. Fall is indeed coming.

But even more meaningful is the photo of the leaf that is shaped like a heart was sent to me with the note that said:  “Thinking of you.”

From Justin.
Sometimes it’s the little things that are greater than the big things.

More tomorrow.

 {what was profound for you today?}

Day 76: f*ing friday :: free food

16 Mar

It’s F*ing Friday!
I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5 in Year 1, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Freedom.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the words:
Free Food.

As in, there IS such a thing as FREE lunch.

This morning, as I took my very first step out the front door, I saw something that caught my eye.

With keys in hand, I turned the lock on the front door and thought to myself, “That’s a pretty little leaf,”  just as I stepped over it on my way to my car.

But, something in me stopped half-way there.
I turned around to inspect the leaf one more time.

As I bent over, I confirmed it was indeed a heart — a tiny heart-shaped leaf.

In this year of adding more love and less fear, I seem to be attracting more hearts and finding them in the most random places.

In fact, just this week I went to lunch with my new friend Libby to celebrate her birthday.

I planned on picking up the tab as a surprise, for two reasons:

1) Because that’s what friends do. Period.

2) I have been searching for friends (since we are new to Naples) and I really didn’t want to blow this one by a little faux pas of not picking up the birthday tab!

At the end of our meal, as we flagged down our waitress to bring the tab, I had my hand ready to grab the check, not wanting to be outdrawn on the birthday surpise.

The surprise was on me.

Our waitress strolled back over to our table and announced our lunch had been paid for.

“What do you mean?
We both asked with confused smiles on our faces.

Our waitress just kept telling us over and over that Iberia Bank had picked up our tab. “Your lunch is taken care of by Iberia Bank— it’s free.”

We both sat there perplexed until Libby turned to me and said, “Did you do this?”

I just started laughing and said, “NO! But I wanted to!”

I asked Libby if she knew anyone at Iberia Bank, to which she confirmed not and we both scanned the restaurant for hidden cameras or other signs of f*ing tomfoolery.

Finally, we accepted the gift as our waitress presented us with two huge chocolate bars with Iberia Bank stickers on them.  As we giggled and hugged goodbye I told Libby that lunch was on me — next time!

I was, of course, surprised but not shocked.
It seems the more I focus on love the more I seem to be in the right place at the right time…

To discover a beautiful heart-shaped leaf on my doorstep.
And, free lunch with a friend.
