JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 69 :: joy rides

12 Mar

We went for a joyride today. And I have to say…Sunshine makes all the difference. Even for a view like this one!

The sunshine and the springlike weather have me thinking about joy. It’s so much easier to feel joyful when the weather is nice and warm on a perfectly sunny day.

But I think the secret is to feel joy always. Even in the dark.

JOY has a message for me this year… and it’s to head toward the light. Focus on the light. Be the light. Live for joy.

So, here’s to the light. May joy be with you always and illuminate your life.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 267 :: kind treats

24 Sep

Planning ahead.

It’s hard to believe it’s almost October. Where has the time gone this year? So far, Kindness has taught me many things in this year of intentional kindness. One is to take things a bit lighter — and not be so serious.

So in the name of lightness and fun here are some costumes and tricks or treats… and some potential Halloween faces:

Have a favorite?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 167 :: the light of kindness

8 Jul

Capturing Light.

On the night of our wedding, Justin’s cousin Rich graced us with the presence of his camera and photography skills. He didn’t know he was going to shoot a wedding that night (he thought he was going to capture a silly family trivia game) but regardless, he was ready with camera in hand.

Here’s the photo he took that night of my wedding dress, with a technique called light painting. I love this photo for so many reasons – it captures the trees that rise so high into the sky at night, and the spot where Justin and I said our vows to each other, and it also captures the light that I felt surrounding and opening my heart.

It was a powerful force, this light, this love, this surge of kindness. As I wrote my vows to Justin I realized so much about what it meant for us to make a promise to each other. On so many levels that promise is about love — and yet, as I’m beginning to realize, that promise is really about kindness. To hold each other so delicately and so strongly at the same time. To listen. To laugh. To love.

Love is kind. And in so many ways, kindness is about spreading light. And, if you look closely at that photo, the light seems to be coming straight out of my heart.

It reminds me of this:
When Justin and I first reunited he played a song for me over and over again.

Let my love open the door…
to your heart.

And, you have to open the door to see the light.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 362 :: seeing the light

29 Dec

Today’s bliss…a late gift.

Christmas is over. But the gifts keep on coming.

Tonight a chandelier arrived and it’s just what I wanted. A tiny, beautiful, bright, shiny chandelier. (Thank you Justin!)

Now I can see the light (and my desk).
What bliss.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 351 :: bliss-more-light

21 Dec

Today’s bliss…the light is coming.

It’s the longest night of the year. Or the shortest day. Depending on how you look at it. And I guess that’s what bliss boils down to… it’s all in how you look at it.

Happy Solstice.
Here’s to more light. Longer days. And a New Year on its way!

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 288 :: a night with oprah #LifeYouWantHou

17 Oct

Where do I begin? How about the goodie bag!!? What’s not to love about a goodie bag!?

It was of course an amazing goodie bag (although I’m pretty bummed that the Mophie juice pack doesn’t fit my 5c iphone … it only fits 5 and 5s….wah!). But I am really not complaining, not at all. I am on a little bit of a high that I’m sure will continue for a few days.

There were so many highlights, I’m not sure where to start or where to stop. So why don’t we start at the beginning.

We arrived in O Town this morning to a crowd of women bursting with energy inside the makeshift town hall, or maybe it was more like O’s version of the county fairgrounds?

As we walked around the tents peering inside to see what lovely surprise waited for us a woman stopped us.

“Would you mind talking on camera about fashion?” she said.

I almost laughed out loud. Boy, do I have a lot to say about fashion! Mostly about not shopping and what it does for the head, heart, body and soul. And how it sent me down an entire journey of lovemore-fearless, abundance, peak performance, goal seeking, looking for the beauty in life adventures.

But they just wanted a sound bite.

So in front of the camera I just summed it all up as beauty starts on the inside. And I believe that… because of all that soul-searching said adventure that not shopping has sent me on, including being here at Oprah’s Live The Life You Want Weekend.

Finally, show time arrived. The lights dimmed. Little lights twinkled all around the stadium. Our wrists lit up too!

Oprah walked onto the stage in a long, yellow gown. She seemed lit up from the inside out, and as the spotlights followed her down the stage it was almost as if she was also lit from somewhere else. Something else, more powerful, channeling a message of life and love.

Her first question as she gazed over the crowd was, “Why are you here?”
I felt as if she meant it on a deeply profound level, way beyond the walls of the Toyota Center.

Oprah then shared her life story and the lessons she has learned from living a big life. Her struggles, her triumphs, her major life moments. As she sang to the crowd, she seemed to summon every part of her being into the hour and half address. Part journalist, part actress, part little girl singing in the choir, part fashionista, part network media mogul, and part spiritual leader. She seemed, in many ways, to be doing her greatest work and sharing her most powerful message. No surprise, it all comes down to LOVE.

As I sit here tonight reflecting on the experience I am in awe of her spirit, her bravery, her vision, her energy and her love.

It was, indeed, as if I witnessed a peak performance.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 285 :: shine on

12 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day…. the magic of fire.

We have a pellet burning stove in our little Oregon house.  I’ve never seen or used or operated one before. It took us a few tries to figure it out. Admittedly there was a bursting cloud of smoke once.  We have that under control now.

It still scares the crap out of Brady.  Every time a spark of fire shoots up from inside the little black box Brady runs out of the room, tail between his legs.

He’s not afraid of pushing the screen window out and running away for his own personal adventure. But one little spark of light and he hides under the sheets.

It makes me think about fire.
And the magic of that light.

And the abundance it can bring… the power it holds.

As Marianne Williams so famously wrote, and is worth repeating here:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

May you shine on.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless}

Day 348: 12 days of christmas :: light

15 Dec

We are 10 days out from Christmas.

As I sit here tonight I reflect on light.

On both the sparkly little Christmas lights dotting the houses lining the New England streets all around me in perfect splendor — and on the sheer power of light and enlightenment.

I am aware of the power of light, the power of it bringing us out of the shadows, leading us out of darkness.

And I know that all it takes to break the hold of darkness is one tiny beam. It is there, whenever we are ready to see it and receive it.

May there be a candle lit inside your heart this Christmas season, for all those who are here with us now and those whom we love who are gone.

May light find you.

May light lift you.

May you be light.

May you carry the light.

May you share the light.
