JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 362 :: for carrie

27 Dec

Day 361: 2016.

Well, 2016. You are going out with a bang aren’t you?

Bon voyage, Carrie Fisher.

Feels like I just saw you last night at the movie theater. And, I did due to some pretty amazing CGI.

And so, 2016, you continue to be full of surprises. All the more reason for us to focus on what matters most. I will be focusing on yoga for a few more days and then…. on to the next promise!

What will 2017 bring you?
What are you focusing on?
What is your NEXT new year going to be all about?

Namaste, Surprises. Namaste.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

Day 320: Thankful.

It’s the week of Thanksgiving. And today I’m just thankful. For so many things. One big one is living close to family. Including this amazing woman who I consider a sister. A soul sister.

Namaste, Sister-Friends. Namaste.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 311 :: choosing

14 Nov

Day 311: The Stretch.

This year I chose yoga every damn day. You would think I would be all stretched out by now. In so many ways, I am not. I am tighter. I am stiffer. I am not so stretchy. I am a bit disappointed.

I asked Jill, my resident yoga expert, about this tonight and she reminded me of something important. The chatter.

There is so much chatter in the brain, or at least there was for me when I first started doing yoga. As a newbie yogi, I watched the clock. I counted the time. I watched the instructors every move. I mimicked the instructors every move. I watched the people next to me. I mimicked the people next to me. I noticed what others were wearing. I compared it to what I was wearing. I kept track of who did poses better than me. I kept track of how many poses I could do better than others. I let my eyes drift. I let my mind wonder. And then it started all over again. With each pose.

This is the chatter.

And then, somewhere along the lines of a longer yoga practice (months or years for some, decades for others), the chatter turns off. The clock melts away. The other mats don’t matter so much. The instructor becomes a guide to the adventure, not just an exact statue to copycat. The chatter fades away into the pose. Holding the pose and being inside the pose. And this… THIS… is when you begin to feel it. Your body.

Because when you give up the chatter, you start to live in your body.

I can say that I fully feel my body now. Instead of the distraction of the chatter. Jill reminded me of this tonight. And maybe that’s why I don’t feel quite so stretched out, or flexible, or nimble. Or advanced. Because I am now paying attention to my own muscles, legs, arms, feet, hands, fingers, toes — each and every one. Noticing everything about them, what they can do and how far they can go.

It’s a good reminder, really. The deeper we go the more aware we become.

Namaste, Stretchy-ness. Namaste.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 284 :: what does namaste mean?

17 Oct

Day 284: Seeing the light.

I was asked today what Namaste means. I had to pause, because, while in my head I think  it to means, “I honor the light in you” I had to look it up.

There seem to be many ways to say what namaste means:

So, no matter how you say it, or what you think it means, it’s all good.
Literally. Good.
Namaste.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

I mean that is some serious Swiss Chard! (And it tasted great too.)

And now… I Namaste…. Night. Night!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 242 the big hurrah

5 Sep

Day 242: Thank you.

Ah… and here we have the real, grand finale. The final note on the entire Lake Powell Trip…

Mike & Lizette.

Together they could fly a plane across the world, rescue an alpine skier from the top of Mount Everest, navigate a gargantuan houseboat through the water of Lake Powell, feed and shop for 10 people who drink like 20 people, drive a ski boat pulling a haphazard crazy wild bunch of humans called “relatives”, and, most important, do it all with a smile on their faces.

There are no words to say thanks big enough to Mike & Lizette. So, instead, I will say what yoga has taught me to say when there are no other words to describe the feeling of thanks, gratitude and love.

Namaste. The divine light within me salutes the divine light within you.
And…We all love you two!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 183 :: friday night yoga club

8 Jul

Day 183: Party of one.

It’s F*ing Friday. As in Friday Night Yoga Club.
Of course, it’s just me. SO I went all out… and did a Plank Challenge. Twice. Twice!
I made it to one minute. 60 seconds. Which is a respectable starting place.

And now… I say Namaste.
Happy Friday.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
