JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 216 :: trust the stretch

4 Aug

{trust}

Today was my first day back to the OrangeTheory workout in a while. And when I say a “while” I mean a month. July has somehow flown away and with it summer is on the horizon.

I am proud of myself in the most humble way possible – mostly for finishing the workout without passing out. That is, in itself, an accomplishment. Tonight as I wind down and feel every aching fiber in my muscles I am reminded that sometimes we must stretch to grow.

Even it means returning to something you have done before. (Ouch)

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 144 :: trust you got this

25 May

{trust}

It’s Mayhem around here, and we did it. Today was our final day of Mayhem, i.e. OrangeTheory’s excuse to kick your butt for a week in order to earn a free hat and towel. I don’t think I have never been so proud of a hat and towel before in my life.

Being on this side of the challenge reminds me that half of it was really mental, not physical. Even though my body aches I know it was mind over matter to complete 5 Mayhem workouts.

And this is what brings me back to trust. You have to trust that you already have what you need to do what you want… even if your lungs, legs and abs are screaming out in pain.

Even if it is Mayhem, you can do this.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 109 :: trust in your limits

19 Apr

{trust}

My arms hurt. My legs are getting sore. It all hurts so good. Today I tried my first OrangeTheory class, evah (as you would say in Boston). It was actually in Hingham and I have been eyeing the studio for a while. Since I had the day off (thank you Good Friday!) I decided to jump in both feet first.

That’s usually the problem. Jumping in blindly. I was, in fact, nervous that I wouldn’ be able to keep up in the workout since it’s been a long winter. But the whole point of OrangeTheory is to push your own limits not trying to keep up (thus the heart rate monitors, tracked data and orange zone).

It’s still hard not to try to keep up. Ah, limits and boundaries and the word no. So hard to implement. But I did, or at least I tried to slow down to my own pace and then push my own limits too. Because, really, at the end of the day we are the only ones who know our own limits.

But it takes a lot of trust and some self-knowledge to listen to your own limits and not others. And with that, I will admit, I will be very sore in the morning. But a good kind of sore. A just-for-me kind of sore and there is something special about that.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie
