JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 311 :: christmas music

7 Nov

Tonight, while driving home, Christmas music began playing out of my iPhone that was hooked up to the car speakers. It seemed like a bit of a jumpstart to the season. Too early.

And yet, so perfectly timed.

I began thinking about the spirit of Christmas. The kindness that goes hand and hand with peace and joy. And it made me wish that Christmas really was ALL year long.

Peace and joy.

More tomorrow…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS DAY 7 :: kind of niceness

7 Jan

Today I was kind in a regular-sort-of-day way. Mostly to my doggies.

I am a puppy pushover. The dogs get what they want. If they want something they come to me. They paw at my leg. They whine in my direction. Because I cave. I am probably a dog trainer’s worst nightmare. I can’t help it… they pull at my heartstrings.

Today Brady got what he wanted. A hug. A sit-on-my-lap pawfully sweet hug.

And Pup got what he wanted. A pawfully cute kiss and lots of attention — and too much water.

And that was probably the extent of my intentional kindness today. And, you know what? I am okay with that. I yearned for a dog for half my adult life. I couldn’t convince my ex to be a dog owner. It caused me an overwhelmingly intense sort of sadness. The kind that is hard to explain to others, but you know it deep in your heart. When you’re a dog person you need a dog.

And now I have two. So, yeah, maybe I’m a pushover. But I waited for it and I have earned it. And I do enjoy every second of it. Even the bumpy, barky, messy days.

Which reminds me of another kind of kindness: enjoying what you have.
Enjoy what you have, kind soul.

More tomorrow.

P.S.  Challenge #1 is still on!  Are you Practicing Respect?
If you choose to accept this challenge, try one of the following acts:
– admire someone with kind words
– point out a particular and appreciated detail with kind words
– use thoughtful words to compliment someone on an achievement

Day 349: 12 days of christmas :: comfort and joy

16 Dec

There are 9 days until Christmas.
This weekend I have found myself reflecting on peace.

Tonight, I wish for comfort.

And I am meditating on the phrase: comfort and joy

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

“Fear not then,” said the Angel,
“Let nothing you affright,
This day is born a Saviour
Of a pure Virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in Him
From Satan’s power and might.”
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Wishing you comfort and joy.

Day 347: 12 days of christmas :: peace on earth

14 Dec

There are no words tonight, in light of the excruciating tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

We are 11 days from Christmas and all I feel is an immense sense that the rug has been pulled out from under so many families and an entire community in the most devastating way possible.

My mission this year has been to be lovemore+fearless and search for the love in all aspects of life. I know there are only two forces in this world, love and fear, and we cannot experience both at the same time.

And yet, there I was today, driving home, listening to the radio, hearing the unimaginable as I sat dumfounded, confused, mad, and terrified.

I cannot find the love.

So tonight, I offer a prayer for peace instead.

May we create a world where peace is uplifted and cherished.
May we open our hearts to all those in Newtown and to each other in this time of confusion and agony. May we share this journey together; holding each other, watching over each other and tending to the needs of our hearts so that peace may exist.

Someway, somehow, I am holding onto love, knowing that there is great work ahead of us. And it is up to all of us to create change.

May there be peace on Earth.
