JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 302 :: october fog

29 Oct

I saw this little squirrel out my window today amongst the October fog in the distance. Actually, I first saw his shadow on my wall, squirming, and bustling about. I turned around to see him sitting so close I could touch him if the window were open.

I was so intrigued I decided to look up the meaning of squirrel:

Perhaps they are here to herald a message for us all, not to give up, not to get stressed and as mentioned before there IS time for everything in life. Don’t forget to play, no matter what age you are.

Another listing said:

When the squirrel comes into our lives it is often a message for us to have more fun, and take life a little less seriously. We can see this in the squirrel’s daily antics in our yards and surroundings.

Symbolic Meaning of Squirrel as a Sun-Loving Animal

  • Passion
  • Energy
  • Expression
  • Vitality

Thanks, Mr. Squirrel!
Seems like a kind reminder to me.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 186 :: 4-letter friday

28 Jul

Play on.

Tonight’s 4-letter Friday word is all about play.
It was a fun night in Minnesota. Great concert. Good times. And fun with friends.

The best kind of play is the kind that involves dear friends. Friends who know you and love you, and have been with you for all of life’s ups, downs, and arounds…. and still want to play.

Thank you Lisa, for a fun night in St. Paul. Your taste in music is impeccable.
Play on!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 46 :: more play, less serious

16 Feb

Day 46. Looking differently.

I had an epiphany the other night. Mostly because Justin told me to pick up my toys. He was pointing at my yoga mats, the ones we had just used to do yoga. He was also kidding, making a joke, and trying to make me laugh.

But the more I thought about it, I realized, he was right!
Toys. Fun. Games. Yoga!

And then I started thinking… what if I just had more fun? More play? Less intent and serious stretching. What if I just thought of my yoga mat as getting out my toys? What fun. What joy. What if?

And so… I wonder… what if we could just make everything more fun by just looking at things differently?

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 181 :: circle of women

5 Jul
As the USA Women’s Team takes home a win I’m moved by a circle of women tonight. Not those in the winners circle or those who lost the game. That’s not why it was so moving for me today.
I didn’t grow up watching women play soccer. There wasn’t a World Cup for Women when I was little.

Oh sure I played soccer in the first grade. Or maybe it was the second? I’m not sure. I was so young I can barely remember what we did, other than run around in one big circle around the ball on the field while some parents herded us around the field. Too young to understand the strategy behind playing a position, it was more about someone trying to kick the ball. Anywhere. In any direction. Just kick it already.

After one season I opted for basketball, a sport that shot out of my hands instead of my feet. And one that had varsity status.

But times have changed. Soccer teams seem to be in every school and every grade. And the women who play the game are on national and worldwide TV. With fans around the globe. Wearing their nations flag. Cheering from corners of cities from around the world. It’s amazing. It’s inspiring. It really almost took my breath away.

But that’s not the circle of women I was moved by today.

It was the little girls walking out on the field next to the World Cup team players that made my heart take a leap and yell, “GOAL!”

They are the future. And who knows what’s in store for them? We can’t possibly imagine. But we can be there for them, standing by their side, helping them usher in a whole new way of experiencing winning, or losing, and the lessons of the game of life and sports.

Which is almost a birthright. Along with the 125 countries with women’s teams participating in the game. And that brings me to another circle of women I know. The ones who weren’t on TV today but who truly know what power that holds.

They are the women who came before me. The ones who paved the way. The passionate supporters of the game of sport for women. For their daughters to play. And now for their granddaughters to play. And the circle continues.

For the greater goal.
And that is a blissful day.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 269 :: girlz weekend

28 Sep

If there is one thing I have learned thus far about peak performance it may be this — to work hard you also need to play hard.

Or rest.
And laugh.
And relax a little too.

And so it is that I feel lighter and all filled up after a weekend with some of my best girls. We descended upon Denver to carve out some time to be together. Which isn’t a small feat given we live in three different time zones.

As the weekend ends and I say goodbye to some of the most important people in my life, we are already planning our next “trip.” But it is not lost on me that what we are really sharing is The Journey. One that is made up of a lot of laughter, a bucket of tears, some serious inside jokes, and a dose of how we are going to save the world too.

To that point, I may just have the answer about how to save the world (or at least yourself) in three simple steps:

1. Make new friends
2. Keep the old
3. Find time to play with your friends

Here’s to peak performance through the power of Girlz Weekend.

2014 BLOG – DAY 34 :: you have to play to win

3 Feb

Tonight, I saw a sign.

It said, “You have to play to win.”
I stopped and pondered the wisdom behind it. It makes total sense in an inspiring way.

Unfortunately, it was on a lottery ticket sales dispenser. Which begs the question of how much to trust the messenger.

Regardless of the origins of the sign the meaning behind it is solid.
And inspiring.

And it makes me wonder… what are you playing?
What do you want to win?

BLOG – GIFT DAY 300 :: an abundance of play

27 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day... a playground.

It’s from a local park.

And when I walked by the playhouse this weekend there was a part of me that wanted to run over and jump and slide and PLAY.

But I didn’t.  I just walked on by.

But it reminds me of something really important…. I love to play.
And I don’t always make time to do it.

Maybe I need to schedule a play day?  Or a moment in my week to have just some time to create random fun.

Or just to slide.

How do you make time for play?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless} PLAYmore!

BLOG – GIFT DAY 171 :: happy dogs

20 Jun

There is never a dull moment living with dogs.
Especially these two.Pup keeps scouting new ways to break into The Garden.
And, Brady, well he keeps finding new ways to leap and bound and chase Pup, or a ball, or a stick, or a bug…around the yard.

It’s pretty obvious that they are both very happy here. They physically run, and play, and I swear, they SMILE more.

And that makes me think — don’t we all smile more when we run and play?

Here’s to more running and playing.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 117 :: 21-day spring clean: play

27 Apr

Spring Clean Day 10

Something new is in the air. I spotted three children playing on the beach today. They were jumping and running from waves as the water crashed onto the beach.

The giggles could be heard all up and down the sandy beach.

And it reminded me of something so very important.
To lighten up!
To play!
To laugh and giggle.

Which brings me back to our Spring Clean, and a commitment to lighten up over these 21-days, inside and out, for the head, heart, body and soul.

Spring Clean Tip #10: Play a Little

Next weekend some of my best girls are coming to town to spend a few days at the beach with me. I have been looking forward to it all winter.

I can’t wait to see my girls!
I can’t wait for a little bit warmer weather
And . . . I can’t wait to play.

How can you play a little more?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore (fearless),
