Day 53: a love letter to my body

22 Feb

Tonight continues my commitment to more love and less fear this year.  For February, I am writing a love letter each day.  Tonight is dedicated to …my body.

Dear Body:

Oh. How. You. Ache. Tonight.

Two words: Power Yoga.
And, I must admit, more than my water bottle is screaming “Woman on Fire” tonight!

And, yet, when I push your muscles to the edge, it feels so good, dear Body.

Even in the pain, I feel your strength.
Through the sweat, I understand your power.

It’s funny when you think about it, I have known you for so very, very long. And, yet, just like my oldest friends and dearest confidants, I fear I take you for granted.

And, for that, I apologize.

Because you have always been by my side.  In my side, well, really, you are my sides. You know what I mean.

Thank you for being here for me.

Love,
Jamie

P.S. I promise to drink more water tonight! Promise.

Day 18: shoes of prey

18 Jan

I was blindsided by a pair of shoes today.

In the middle of reading marketing articles and industry updates the shoes appeared on my computer screen.

They swooped right in, catching me off-guard.
Granted, I am an easy target.

The article was about a web company called Shoes Of Prey which delivers shoes in customized colors, fabrics, you name it.  You pick from a gallery of shoe patterns and then go to work creating your own flair and style. A very buzz worthy concept.

Naturally, I had to check it out.
One hour later, I have this to show for myself:

Turquoise Snake Skin or Red Fish Skin?
Red Patent Leather or Teal Italian Silk?

It may be the best form of video game I have ever played.
At least it felt like on-screen action adventure.

The shoes perfectly match a turquoise silk shirt in my closet.
They would be so fabulous with that red Max Mara coat for which I drool.

I would love to add these shiny things to my repertoire of feeling loved, bright and naturally glamorous!

But, I won’t. I have a promise to keep.

I will do the following: consciously invest what I could have spent on these lovely little ditties into something else for thee body of thine.

One pass to hot yoga please!
For $225 I can purchase 15 power yoga classes at Bala Vinyasa. That’s more than 1,125 minutes of powerfully released toxins at approximately 20 cents per minute.

As promoted by said yoga studio:
“Come three times a week to change your body ~ five times a week to change your life.”

Believe me, each and every second in a power yoga class feels excruciatingly life changing.

No shoes required.

Day 11: hot yoga

11 Jan

I have a power yoga hangover this morning.

I feel like my body has been forced through one of those homemade spaghetti makers. I am noodle.

It feels so good.
I am both dehydrated and re-energized.

Which makes me think, maybe I should have called this blog THE SHIFT 365 or INVESTMENT 365.

While I am not spending money on clothes or shoes or other things to decorate or adorn my body, I am investing in my body and in activities or other healthy ways to take care of my body, soul, head, heart.

I am merely shifting my spending to new categories, with the plan to get much greater bang for my buck.

Hot Yoga was the best 20 dollars I have invested all year.

Now, please excuse me, I need to go invest in a large glass of water…
