JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 168 :: fireside joy

17 Jun
{cheers}

We find ourselves in New Hampshire. From Massachusetts to Maine to New Hampshire. Three states in three days. It’s already been an adventure to remember.

Joy has me reflecting on the importance of gatherings. Brian said it best this weekend — “Life is about showing up.”  I think joy might be too. There is joy in showing up in your life and in the life of others too.

Tonight as we sat around the fire on a warm summer night and shared stories and photos and heartfelt memories I saw a new light. Not the light of cell phones reflecting on faces but the light of a fireplace. It is a primal connection, that of flame and fire and the connection we share when we gather together — and show up.

Here’s to showing up. For your life and your joy.
Cheers!

More tomorrow…

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 167 :: dance with joy

16 Jun
{dance, dance, dance}

Tonight we celebrate the marriage of Andy and Courtney. It’s been a day of blood, sweat and tears.

The blood is for family and the beauty of reunion. The hugs the stories the memories all wrapped into a moment that will become more folklore for generations to come.

The sweat is from the hot Maine summer sun beating down on us as we awaited the lovely couple’s entrance and nuptials while fanning our faces with the program. It was a blessing that the sky was blue and the sun was out. It was a perfect day for the perfect couple with all the heat that comes with it.

And then there were the tears. From the moment the bride came into view, to the heartfelt vows shared, to remembering those who couldn’t be with us on this very important day, to the speeches, the toasts, and the first dance.

And then… there was the dancing. From littles to bigs, from young to old, there was the shared vibration of music, love and laughter.

It was a good reminder to live, love, laugh and dance.

There is joy in dancing. On any day. At any age. But especially at weddings.

May joy be with you.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 166 :: joy is getting together

15 Jun
{again and again}

We have gathered. We have eaten. We have driven the coast, shopped at outlets, and seen the sights. We have gathered. We have hugged. We are here in Maine for a beloved wedding and I am thinking about the importance of “unions” and “reunions.”

Uniting. Reuniting. That is the process of a wedding, of family gathering and regathering. There is so much hope, love, memories, laughter and, love in the air. And, I think this is pure joy emanating from the love we all have for the bride and groom.

It reminds me that joy is found in getting together, again and again, and again.
Shared moments. New memories. Old stories. New beginnings.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 165 :: joy flies

13 Jun
{wings}

If time flies why can’t joy?

Tomorrow we head to Maine and then on to a wedding and family gathering. It all has me thinking about the joy that comes with family and friends and feasts. It is the connection, really. The joy of connection.

It all reminds me that joy flies on the wings of love.

Here’s to joy connections.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 164 :: the joy of each moment

12 Jun
{savor}

I’m winding down my day and sitting in bed writing my blog post. One of the best benefits of writing this daily blog is carving out time to reflect and savor each day. This is the time that I allow myself to review, rewind and relax into what was good, what was bad, and what is now behind me.

I love the word savor. SAVOR! It’s so saucy and so simple at the same time.

So what could be more joyful than taking the time to savor the day?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 163 :: the joy of life

11 Jun
{lRings of life}

My hands tell so many stories. I have the garnet heart ring of Mama Sling that I wear every day. It tells the story of a mother who was more of an angel than a human being, more a guide than a guardian, more loved and mysterious than ever with each passing year.

I have a diamond wedding ring that Justin gave me in a surprise, down on one knew adventure that led to a surprise up in the mountains wedding. He found the ring on the east coast and held onto it for four years before he proposed on the west coast. We got married in the Rocky Mountains and the memories still make my heart bounce and me feel more than a mile high.

And, now, I have a beautiful opal ring. It’s from Australia. The only place on earth that celebrates my birthday with fireworks in the middle of winter. I was born on Australia Day, January 26th. It is winter in the northern hemisphere, but it is summer on my birthday down under. So it seems, it is only filling that I have a ring that dances with the fire of opals on my hand.

I wear it with such joy. It was Nancy’s. And, while we said goodbye to her this weekend with an official ceremony, the memories still reverberate in my heart and now on my hand.

We leave very little behind in this life. The memories are the most treasured. But, sometimes, a small token of joy can last another lifetime. If we choose to receive it.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 162 :: the joy of games

10 Jun
{laughter}

I learned the card game “Speed” this weekend by two little girls who play it much faster than I do. I was so bad at it, it made me laugh. I had more laughter than “game” in me but I suppose that is the point.

It reminds me that games are better when they come with laughter.
What joy.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 160 :: the joy of being

8 Jun
{moments}

It’s Friday.

Which has me sitting here contemplating the week we just completed and the week ahead. Tomorrow, we head down past Seattle to Kent to celebrate the life of the queen of adventure, Aunt Nancy. Next weekend we will celebrate the wedding of Andy and Courtney, with a long-awaited gala in Maine. And, as I sit here tonight, I can’t help but remember that today marks the first full week we have lived without our #1 Pup.

It’s the circle of life. The shifting seasons. This wild ride.

It reminds me to look forward as much as to look back and reflect. It also has me thinking about joy. The importance of keeping joy in your head and love in your heart during all the moments of life – the big, the small, the confusing, the heart-breaking and all the miracles in between.

Here’s to the joy of life and the adventure of this crazy ride we call being a human being.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 159 :: the joy of familiar

7 Jun
{voices}

In my latest Netflix binge I’m catching up with David Letterman and his guests on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. Just hearing his iconic voice brings me to a place of good humor and intrinsic trust.

In it, Letterman is doing what he does best, interviewing others with respect, humor and pointed questions. For me, it brings me right back to a time when watching television was a family activity. It was the hub of information, and the hosts were our trusted advisors. Even in the late of night, their voices were as familiar as a neighbor, as if they held a spot at the dinner table because after dessert there was TV.

We are far from those days now with a plethora of channels and screens and hosts and bloggers and fake news and noise.

It reminds me that sometimes just a familiar voice is all you need to tap into a reservoir of joy. Even if it is someone you have never really met.

Jamie
