JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 280 joy is double duty

15 Oct

{Dunkin’}

Ah, Monday! You surprised me again this week. Just when I think all is well and ready to go I ended up driving through the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through twice. I blame joy. That’s right, JOY.

The line was very long this morning as I waited my turn to order at the drive-through. When I finally made it up to the speaker system the attendant asked if I wanted to donate to JOY. Of course, I said yes, then ordered my chai tea and pumpkin donut. When I pulled up to the window I was so overjoyed to sign my name on a little piece of JOY paper proclaiming to the world that I had given to the Joy Foundation that I drove away. Without my tea or donut.

I made it three feet forward when I realized I had no tea in my hands but it was too late. The very long line of cars pulled forward automatically. So I was forced to line up again at the end of the line. What a way to start a Monday morning. When I finally made it back up to the window the attendant had a good laugh and my tea waiting for me too.

Apparently, joy is so wonderful, sometimes, we have to do it twice!

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 279 joy is shopping

14 Oct

{sunday}

Ah, the joy of shopping! That is how this blog began and where it brings me today. To shopping for a blanket. Not for me. Not for Justin. Or anyone else I am related to. No, today, I went shopping for the dog. That’s right, Brady.

Brady keeps trying to steal my blanket. I have to admit, it’s a really nice, furry, warm one from World Market. What can I say, this dog has great taste? But this blanket is mine and I want to keep it that way. So I made a special trip to Marshall’s to find Brady his own really nice, furry warm blanket.

Sunday shopping success! Now Brady has his own blanket and so do I. So both of us can be warm.
And that brings me joy.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 278 :: joy is sleeping in

13 Oct

{on the weekend}

My body revels in the joy of rest. I love the days when I can sleep past 6:30 am. And, I really love the days when I can sleep in past 8:30 am. It almost feels like a vacation to have an entire Saturday morning in my pajamas. Sometimes you just gotta take the moment that joy delivers. Even if that means sleeping through it!

Happy weekend… happy sleeping.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 277 :: joy is friday

12 Oct

{friday, friday, firday}

It’s Friday and that’s all I need to feel joy. Friday makes the drive home more beautiful, the fall leaves brighter, and the music on the radio the soundtrack of the weekend ahead. Friday is joy, and joy is Friday.

Friday, Friday, Friday!

More tomorrow… Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 275 joy is dinner

10 Oct

{by candlelight}

Boston hit 84 degrees today… a fall day in October. I felt the joy of summer all over again. Bright blue skies, warm heat, enough joy to make me want to go to the beach.

I didn’t hit the sand, but we did have dinner outside by candlelight. If there is anything to make dinner more appetizing it must be the glow of candlelight. And, if there is anything that makes a regular Wednesday night feel like date night, it is eating outside on a warm evening under a canopy of leaves changing color.

Joy is more than feeding my soul this year… it is feeding my senses.
How is joy feeding your soul and senses?

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 274 :: joy is a new dog bed

7 Oct

{woof}

It’s a big day around here. We bought Brady a new dog bed. Which means we threw out the old one. It’s bittersweet. Throwing away the old bed means throwing out the last vestige of our dear Pup. But replacing it with a new one brings Brady joy – his own bed and it’s even bigger!

Sometimes I think joy is really about knowing the difference between two ends of a spectrum. In this case, it’s between memories and moving on, old beds and new beds, and of course, old smells and new smells.

Joy is seeing both ends at the same time and staying totally present to the love both hold.

Here’s to new smells!

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 273 :: joy is banana babies

6 Oct

{dark chocolate}

It’s a dark chocolate sort of night over here. Good thing I have a supply of banana babies (dark chocolate of course)!
They are only 130 calories and include no trans fat. And if you ask me… that’s a recipe for joy!

Happy Saturday night!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 268 joy is home sweet home

1 Oct

{joy}

Tonight is a sit on the couch sort of night. There are still boxes to unpack and a few things to organize but there is something very joyful about sitting on a couch on a Monday night. Relaxing.

It makes me realize that joy is as simple as home sweet home.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 267 :: joy is #1

30 Sep

{the best}

Last night I wrote about this paint splash that Justin found on our wall.

And tonight, I’m sharing what it reminds us of… or who it reminds us of!  It’s #1 Pup, of course.

It seems like such a sign. As if Pup had a hand in helping us find a new home after we said goodbye to him. He couldn’t make the cross-country move with us, but somehow he made it here anyway. His marking splashed across a wall in the bathroom shower. It was just a mistake by the painters, but to us it’s another reason to believe we were meant to be here.

On my plane ride home yesterday I sat next to an 82-year-old man who just buried his wife. He was flying “home” without his love for the first time in 62-years. He told me that was okay because “as long as people are alive who remember her, she will always be around.”

It’s always hard to lose someone, anyone, even a pet. But this just reminds me that we never really lose anyone as long as they are in our hearts. And maybe even reflected on our walls.
What joy.

More tomorrow… Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 255 :: joy is monday night

17 Sep
{new week}

It’s a Monday night. And the best part is that tomorrow is officially Tuesday morning. Mondays can be less joyful than Fridays, for sure.  So I found something that makes Monday better…

Puppy noses make almost everything better, and definitely more joyful.
More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie
