JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 317 :: world kindness day

13 Nov
{how kind}

Ah, the red eye.

This morning, very early in the morning, I took a flight on United out of Seattle to Chicago. Just after the engines revved up and we gained speed the man across the aisle from me began to murmur and then wail.

I heard his wife say, “Stay with me, stay with me.” and then she looked directly at me and said in a panic, “I need help, call for help!”

I scrambled out my seat trying to find the call button in the dark. From there the chaos ensued. The stewards, a nurse and a doctor on board, both came to his side. A full backpack of medical supplies was laid out next to my seat. Medicine. Oxygen tank. Stethoscope.

The crew of doctor and nurse and flight attendants came to a quick conclusion – the plane was turned around and routed back to Seattle.

Just as we landed, the nurse who came to this man’s rescue, who now sat next to me holding an oxygen tank said, “We landed just in time.” Then she showed me the tank that was almost empty.

“You know, this is typical” she then smiled and winked as she looked at me, “It’s just like a doctor to leave the patient and go back to his seat. A nurse never leaves her patient.”

It was dark, early-morning, long before the sun peaks out of the clouds. The medics came onto the plane and helped this man off. The nurse followed. As I sat in the dark looking out my little plane window I was in awe of the helpers who helped in a moment of crisis on this plane. The stewards. The doctor. The nurse. And all the passengers who not once complained about the flight connections they were all going to miss. All strangers. But all so compassionate and calm.

How kind, really.

When I finally landed in Chicago later this morning, my phone turned on and blinked a reminder text message up at me.  It was a calendar alert letting me know today is “World Kindness Day.”

I think that couldn’t be more perfect …or perfectly timed.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 201 :: seattle sun

12 Aug

We found the sun in Seattle today. At the Sounders game, on our way to visit family. \

It’s not that the sun is rare, it’s just that the sun is what brings out the best of Seattle. It is cherished. and honored. And loved. And respected. Sometimes we need to contrast to appreciate what we have.

That’s pretty kind if you ask me.

It’s a sunny blue sky in Seattle today.  A perfect welcome to Billy Joel – the man, the myth, the legend.

And it’s this gorgeous girl’s first concert:

So we are going Uptown, Girl, thanks to her little boy. (Thanks for the tickets Justin!)

And that brings me to this — the importance of having things to look forward to.
Work done.
Yoga done.
Blog done.

Bring on the fun!

2014 BLOG – DAY 33 :: the power of #12

2 Feb

Before I down some NyQuil the power of winning is on my mind.

And #12.
Where we just came from #12 meant winning in the form of Tom Brady. Now, in the Pacific Northwest, #12 means something else.

The Twelfth Man.

Tonight, it also meant an incredibly boring game but a really amazing win.

And, I believe no matter the team or the coast the fans do make a difference.

I’ve written about this before. It’s based on The Joy of Sox.

The Joy of Sox describes the power of invisible forces, energy and fans. You can read more here. Need more proof, check out this video on metronomes syncing.

I might be sneezing and coughing but my heart goes out to all the Seahawks fans.
Here’s to #12 for 2014.

(And may 2015 be in favor of Tom Brady and The Pats.)

More tomorrow.

Congratulations Seattle!

BLOG – GIFT DAY 342 :: december travel: bye bye seattle

8 Dec

I’m waving goodbye to Seattle today.

As we left the city our shuttle driver said, “It hasn’t been this cold in Seattle for 20 years!”

I’m not sure if that is an official record, but it was cold here.
And SO sunny!

Cold enough to appreciate a warm fireplace – whether it is inside or outside!

December is here so I shouldn’t be surprised, but Ms. December feels unseasonably cold to me — and in so many parts of the country, including that crazy Philly Snow Bowl.

It’s enough to make me wish I would have read this article a week ago:

Outdoor Home Prep to Do Before Hard Winter Hits

Maybe you still have time?
If so, consider it a gift!

I am headed to Chicago and will report back from there.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 341 :: photos from seattle

7 Dec

Somehow we found sun in Seattle.

Usually I write more, photo less. But tonight, since the SUN was so amazing today in Seattle I am just sharing some pics from Pikes Market.

Including a golden pig, ferris wheel ride, Mt. Rainier, beautiful blue water and blue skies over a Seattle skyline.

Oh, yes, and some cold, cold weather.
But it was worth the shivers to see this city under a bright sunny sky.
A GIFT really.

Speaking of gifts, today my gift went to Jaynane.
Because it’s hard to leave Pike Market and not buy a souvenir.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 340 :: sunshine in seattle

6 Dec

We have arrived. In Seattle.

It’s all here. The Space Needle. The flagship REI store. And, of course, Pearl Jam.

I’m having flashbacks to the movie Singles just being here.

But before we arrived …we stopped.  In Portland.
At Voodoo Doughnuts.

There are many things the Pacific Northwest has that simply amaze me.
Mountains. Ocean. Cities. Glaciers. Deserts. Lakes.

And, now, a bucket of doughnuts for $5.

I’m not making this up.
I kind of wish I were, but, yes, indeed, we bought a bucket of donuts to take north and share with family.

Bacon maple donuts.
Apple fritters covered in peanut butter and chocolate chips.

Hubba Bubba donuts.

And all that sugar reminds me of something.

Some say that everything has already been done.
To that I say, voodoo.

If you think there isn’t room for your big, crazy idea.
Think again.

Make it bigger, better, sweeter, and full of more bacon and sugar.
Make it unexpected.
But don’t give up.

Now excuse me, I’ve got a date with a donut….and some sunshine…in Seattle!

More tomorrow.
