JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 357 :: christmas kindness

23 Dec
{counting}

Today I continue the month of Christmas Kindness!

Tonight I baked. Again.

This time it was a sweet cake recipe from my alkaline cookbook:

But the really sweet part was sharing the baking process with Justin.  And laughing in the kitchen while trying a new recipe. Who knows how it will turn out?

The best part is figuring it out together.
And sharing….that is what counts most.
How kind.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 341 :: christmas kindness

7 Dec
{give openly}

Today I continue the month of Christmas Kindness!

We just arrived home from a Christmas party. One with a gift exchange “swap with a twist…”. We all drew numbers and then one by one picked up our presents. The gift picking came with the option to take someone else’s gift.

When I lived in New England, this was called a “Yankee Swap.” I’m not sure what it is called here on the West Coast. But it always creates a lot of laughter and some serious swapping strategies.

Tonight, the game ended with a promised “twist” — which was after all the swapping had subsided we passed our gifts one person to the right.

I ended up with a sweet little set of LED candles. But it got me thinking about kindness. About working really hard and gearing up over a mysterious box and then just handing it over to someone else.

There’s grace in sharing.
And it’s kind to share openly.
Even if it’s a box wrapped in paper that you pass to your right.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 28 :: sharing and books

28 Jan

Books.

I love to read. So today I am celebrating books.

Books and ideas turn me on. I am a brainy-nerdy-book-reading student of big ideas. But I never have the time to read all the books sitting on my bookshelf. I start most of them, I finish some of them, I barely crack open a few of them.

So I really love this…

Today, I spoke with Steve Cunningham, the CEO of ReadItFor.Me today. He offered to share a little gift with all of my network. (I think that is KIND and nice so I’m sharing tonight on the blog.)

Read It For Me sends free book summaries of all the latest business book reads.
There’s no catch or credit card required. If you want a free month, all you have to do is go here and fill out a quick form, and then Readitfor.me will set up your account.

Pure disclaimer, if loads of people sign up I get a bonus membership to ReadItFor.me, so there’s that little perk. Only sign up if it will benefit you! 😉

Now on to some of the books I love… here’s my top Biz Books:

Lovemarks
Purple Cow
Eat That Frog
The One Thing
The Art of War
The New Rules of Marketing & PR

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 227 :: before and after

21 Aug
It’s Feel Good Friday. Happy FGF.
Yesterday I showed a photo of a new project… the official before photo.

And today…I have the after photo…

Oh what fun. Thank you Jaynane! I LOVE them! It certainly brought me bliss. Which makes me realize… sometimes bliss is more than the project, more than the purpose, more than the purchase, and more than the price.

It’s always the people you share with.
Such bliss.

More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

BLOG – GIFT DAY 332 :: a month of inspiration :: recipe for sharing thanksgiving

28 Nov

Today, in my month-long nod to inspiration, I am inspired to share sharing.

I mean, really? Why didn’t I think of this earlier?

I am overcome with the idea of sharing today.
For one, I have completely adored the photos posted on Facebook all day long. The food, the holiday, the snacks, the family pics, the celebration of people coming together and breaking bread, roasting turkey, watching football, revving up for Black Friday shopping deals…

It’s not just tradition. Or a day off. Or an excuse to overeat, kill turkeys and watch men in tights violently hit each other on national television.

It’s proof that we are connected.

So tonight I share what connects me to my mother — her recipes (thanks to my sister for sharing with me!).

Below is Mama Sling’s Famous Roll recipe.
I am happy to report that my attempt turned out pleasantly surprisingly amazing! Although, I admit, not as GREAT as the way my mom would make. The taste is the same and brought back a wave of memories but there was something missing… possibly her loving touch… or a secret step not written down on the recipe card.

Taste and smell are usually the culprits for good memories, and this was no less powerful.

And now it’s my turn to make new memories… let me start by sharing with you and yours.

***

Mama Sling’s Rolls

1 C warm water (NOT hot-it will kill the yeast)

1 C milk

1 packet yeast

1 egg

1/2 C sugar

1/4 C oil

5-6 C flour (as needed to make dough stiff)

Directions:

Dissolve yeast into warm water – add warm milk (not hot, just take off the chill so the yeast gets activated), sugar, beaten egg, and oil. Combine in flour and mix until sort of stiff. Put in a greased plastic bowl, cover and refrigerate overnight. Take out until warm to touch. Make into rolls or shape into loaves. Put shaped dough into a pan and let raise – bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown and thumps hollow.

I wish you many happy, joyous shared moments this holiday.
And thank you for letting me share!

More tomorrow.

GIFT DAY 077: 30-day gratitude challenge: are you in?

18 Mar

My promise this year is to explore abundance.

What is it?
How do we get it?
Where does it live? work? play?

So far this year has found me reading books and asking questions and giving away a gift a day.

I dove into books like The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life and The Energy of Money: A Spiritual Guide to Financial and Personal Fulfillment. All to track down this abundance thing.

And here’s a theme that keeps showing up — and I don’t think you will find it surprising.

The secret is all about the GRATITUDE.

Surprised?
Yeah, I didn’t think so.

It’s so simple yet so elusive.

So I’m going to put this little attitude about gratitude to the test. For the next 30 days I will share three things I’m grateful for every single day right here on the blog.

I will still give away my gift a day, as part of my promise, but I am adding a little experiment into the mix.

30 DAYS OF GRATITUDE.
Starting today. Ends on April 16th.

What will happen?
I don’t know.

But I am willing to find out!

Today I am grateful for:
1. A phone call with a great, supportive friend
2. Frozen pizza! (I’m cooking dinner!)
3. Ocean waves lapping up on the beach. It’s so calming.

Want to play with me?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore (fearless),
Jamie
