Day 297: may the best scent win…and I’m smelly

25 Oct

I spied with my little eye these totally fun lotions today…

It made me wonder …just what would our Founding Fathers think if they saw what we’ve done with their great experiment in democracy.

What would they think of Facebook, Twitter and other virtual election memes?

What would they think of Saturday Night Live skits that mock the election?

What would they think of “eau-lection” body lotion?

And …does it matter?
I suppose it doesn’t, really.

Everything evolves, changes, grows up, spreads wings — gets a little orange and minty.

I kind of love it.
May the best scent win.

P.S. For the record I am in full-on event planning mode and have not showered today! Going to take care of that soon…promise.

P.P.S. You can follow this fabulous Women on Fire event on Twitter at #wofretreat (hey, it’s a free world, you can do what you please!)

Day 153: fearless in the shower

2 Jun

I have a confession.

It’s pretty gross, I admit.
Even in my shame, I publicly announce that I haven’t washed my hair in four days.

Well, to be exact, I haven’t washed my hair with shampoo. My strands have been watered just not with suds.

I keep forgetting to buy shampoo, amidst all the unpacking, settling in and sorting. And, despite this my locks feel better than ever, stronger, healthier, brighter.

Maybe not using shampoo is the answer?
Maybe it’s the water?
Maybe it’s the outdoor shower?

Whatever it is, I know I can’t keep going like this and will make a shampoo run a priority.

But, I do love the outdoor shower.

So much so, today in the middle of pounding wind and pouring rain I took an outdoor shower.

In my year with lovemore fearless goals, I must admit, it’s the little things that make me feel strong.

Like standing naked in a rain storm, forgetting how cold and wet it is all around me, while enjoying the hot water from the outdoor shower.

Oh, yes, also —- not shampooing my hair.
Hey, for this girl… that’s pretty fearless.

Day 163: do you sing naked outside?

12 Jun

It took me all day to get up the nerve to take a shower.
You see, my only option while we are on the island (and the main house is rented) is the outdoor shower attached to the outside of the house.

Which normally is a blissful act that I love.
In fact, I love it more than the beach ~ the water is at least warm!

But this morning, as rain pelted the windows in front of my desk I couldn’t move myself to do that dirty deed … get naked, outside, in the rain and the COLD.

If there are two things I hate it is to be cold and dirty.
Dirty and cold.  Doesn’t matter which way you order it, they make me just plain miserable.

The prospect of sitting in my own stench outweighed the act of taking off my clothes in the cold and windy rain.  Just the thought of it sent shivers all over my body.

So, there I sat, in front of my computer for hours, hugging my cup of tea waiting for the rain to stop.

It’s a terrible thing to sit around and wait.

Waiting for food to cook if you are starving, waiting for the light to turn green if you are late, waiting for the doctor to call if you are sick, and my favorite, waiting in line for your turn at the toilet when you can’t hold it one more moment.

So, I took Pup by the leash and we went for a walk in the rain.
The rain still didn’t stop.

So, I worked for hours in front of my computer, looking up now and then to confirm that, yes, it was indeed still pouring outside.

This game of ‘hide and go seek for the sun’ went on for hours.

Finally, I had enough.
I threw on my robe and flip flops, ran out the door and hopped into the shower.  And, I did hop.  I hopped on both feet trying to warm up my bones as I waited for the water to heat up.

And, that’s when I caught myself singing.
The irony.  Singing in the rain.

Well, it was more like singing in a rain shower.
I was outside, naked, and completely secluded in my own little world of the outdoor shower.

The water was warm.
The world around me was cold.
And I was singing.

Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Then, for a brief, tiny, second the sun peeked out from the sky.
And, it stopped raining.

As if the sky was just waiting for me.
Like it had been watching me all day long. Waiting for me to make the first move.

Sitting here tonight, it makes me wonder:
Who else am I sitting around waiting for?
Where am I waiting for something else to stop, to start, to continue?

Maybe the answer is just as easy as this:
Get naked and hop in with both feet first.

And, of course, it doesn’t hurt to sing a little tune.
