The weather forecast calls for rain this week but I am concentrating on the sun. We have a wedding to attend this weekend and we just put little porch lights out on the deck so I have decided to will summer’s presence. Rain or shine.

Maybe trust is more will than patience? Regardless I think it’s best to be the sun in the summer. OR at least trust that it will show up! 

I think that statement applies to many aspects of life. Maybe that’s why we all talk about the weather so much…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 138 :: trust in the seasons

Nine years ago I started this blog. Five years ago I discovered my love of flowers. Today, I saw the first blossom on our rhododendron plant. It’s like falling in love all over again.

The rhodies are about to bloom and they make my heart soar. 

I discovered my love of flowers when they were my only hope. I was in my head waiting for surgery and they were in the yard waiting to bloom. Both of us were looking up to the sky every day praying for life. As I waited, they slowly unfolded, each petal gently reminding me of the faith it takes to live and the beauty that comes with it.

It’s five years later and today I discovered that the rhododendron plant in front of our new home on a new coast in a new year and a new life is blooming the color purple. It was Mama Sling’s favorite color. It’s also a good reminder that spring is the best time to bloom and summer is the best time to fly.

It poured rain today. Buckets of rain fell from the sky all day long. It made me think about April showers and those promised May flowers.

  And it makes me want to scream: The flowers are coming! The flowers are coming!

Until then, we wait. We float on the water, swim with abandon and trust the tide will pull us forward on the path to spring blossoms and a beautiful future.

Spring is coming! Spring is coming!

We have officially spotted a flower poking out of the ground. We are pretty sure it’s a yellow daffodil just waiting to bloom. It has me thinking about trust and spring and how they can bloom hand-in-hand. 

It’s a good reminder to be like a flower. Bloom and grow and trust the spring.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 88 dreams are made of trust

Trust me. I’ve been thinking about this topic of trust for a while now… at least 88 days. It has me spotting things, or I should say, looking at things in a new light. Like the flowers trying to spring out of the ground and the trust it must take to push through layers of soil to follow the sun.

Or the winning shot at the end of a basketball game, and the trust it must take to keep pushing forward. Trust is a game of faith and hope and its the stuff dreams are made of. 

But without trust, I’m not sure it’s possible to go after your dreams. You have to trust there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. You have to trust there will be sun after you push through the soil. And you have to trust that game-winning shot will leave your hands and fall through the hoop. Maybe that is why it is called March Madness. 

It’s quite mad to believe in spring, that the sun will melt the snow and the flowers will come out to play. But we do. We trust it will happen. And it does. 

What a beautiful reminder from Mother Nature to keep the faith, hope… and trust.

Ah, trust. The sun will come out tomorrow! It snowed last night but the weather app on my phone says it will be always 60 degrees tomorrow. Does that mean Spring is really almost here?

Trust me, I’m ready. And as I wait for the weather to turn into warm summer breezy days I have to sit in a state of trust. Trust is truly a state of being.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 64 :: breathing in beauty

I spotted a little patch of beauty today. My heart beat a little faster and I wanted to scream, “The flowers are blooming! The flowers are blooming!” It must mean Spring is just around the corner.

What a relief.
And what a joy!

Winter can feel so long and hard and like such a drudge… and then one day you notice a little patch of flowers. At least I did, today. It reminded me to breathe. In and out. And to enjoy watching each moment unfold into Spring and the beauty that surrounds us.

And sometimes, that is all you need to know.

Sometimes the breakthrough comes after the break… and today, the sun broke through the clouds outside my window. If only for a moment.

It had me thinking about the joy of spring. And how I cannot wait to experience more of it.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 55 :: blooming

The snow has melted. And my little flowers outside my office window seemed to have survived the storm. They are brighter green today than they have been all week. It has me thinking of spring, and blossoms and the power of blooming. 

But I know that the petals are really just the expression of all the work that happens before the flower blooms. The struggle in the soil, the surviving of the winter storms, the seeds that were planted so long ago. Blooming always starts on the inside, deep beneath the surface.

I have a feeling that is where JOY comes from too.
