JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 180 :: 4-letter word friday

21 Jul

Singing in the RAIN.

It’s POURING rain in Chicago. Sideways rain. Intense flash flood rain.

Of course, it happened at the exact moment we needed to get INTO our taxi to go to dinner… and then again exactly as we needed to hop back into a taxi to return home. It was all worth it of course – great food, great friends, great memories and moments.

Rain is good.
Rain is vital.
But just like kindness, if you smother with too much, too fast, it can cause a flash flood.

Now, get an umbrella.
Cause everyone’s going to get wet!

More tomorrow….

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 61 :: every act

5 Mar

As we enter the week ahead, I am reminded that every act matters. They all build up on top of each other, leading to the next, and the next, and the next.

And so tonight… I am pondering how every act of kindness matters.

Kindness Challenge:
How can you make every act matter this week?
How would it impact your week?
How could it change your life?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 35 :: upward beetle

4 Feb

Day 35. Tow Truck.

So here’s what I’m grateful for:

  • Noticing a light that’s not supposed to go off…go off (on the highway)
  • Reading the Exit sign
  • Taking the Exit
  • Pulling off the road to safety
  • Being close enough to call family for support (one reason why we moved!)
  • AAA
  • Internet Searches
  • Being home

And so much, much more.

That may be the best short list a girl can write on a long night.

After the antics of the Upward Beetle this body took a shower and then did a little Downward Dog. I’m starting to wonder if this yoga promise is cracking the foundation I stand on (on purpose) one step at a time.

Maybe that’s the point. Strength, they say, comes from within.
And, of course with a little help from your friends.

So thank you my dears – Justin for some internet sleuthing, and Jaynane and Nancy I owe you a few gin and tonics and maybe a big, old-fashioned burger. Make that a Maid-Rite?

And with that…   this girl is going off to bed.
May the sun rise tomorrow.

More tomorrow.

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 226 :: you never know how strong you are

14 Aug

I’m home! Finally…. after a crazy plane trip from Chicago to Las Vegas to San Diego to Portland to Medford to finally Grants Pass.

I blame it on Spirit Airlines which I will not fly again without looking at the fine print. Actually, it may cost money just to read the fine print. Or breathe on the plane.

But I am home. And that feels good after an incredible trip to ChiTown.

When I arrived home I found a care package waiting for me. Awesome sauce!

Thank you Jill and Josie, I loved every single item. But I love you both more.

As one of the gift says… You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

More tomorrow.

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 169 :: rubber duckies, soft boobs and hard strength

17 Jun

My new friend wrote to me with an epiphany tonight.

Let me just preface this with a statement: it’s amazing what you can easily forget ever existed.

So what was the epiphany?
Soft boobs.

My new friend came through surgery with flying colors …and softer boobs. The implants have replaced the expanders and along with that is a new softness. I’m next in line of course and tonight I couldn’t help but think how foreign that word sounds.

You see these expanders feel like rubber. They look like rubber. They are hard. So hard in fact, Justin said “I think we could bounce a quarter of of those things.”

I haven’t tried but I’m sure it’s possible.

I suppose it’s a good analogy of this journey. You have to harden in some places before you can soften. Namely, you harden in your gut, and all the places you hold your resolve, your strength, your hope, your determination.

Then, somehow, inch by inch you step over, or rather, bounce like rubber to the other side. And that’s where I think there is softness. Softness in making the journey, stepping through the fear, swimming in new waters. It is in fact where the heart softens as it reflects from the inside out and knows deep down inside that there is more. There is more here.

I’m so happy for my new, softer friend. She has officially crossed the divide and landed safely — and softly — on the other side of the mastectomy journey.

As for me, for now, my rubber duckies are just fine. But I look forward to stepping over the rainbow to softer days ahead.

More tomorrow.

{what are you looking forward to?}

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 141 :: home again, home again

22 May

Jiggity jig.

Or, maybe I should say juggity jugs after my latest “fill up” in Portland.

Either way, I’m tired. So I leave you with this:

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”

More tomorrow.
{here’s to a new day}

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 125 :: home is where the heart is…

6 May

We are home! After the long journey through surgery and beyond we have landed “home” with many hearts and our head/body/soul intact.

With me I have many tokens from the beach, including a handful of heart-shaped rocks.

We arrived home to a little bit of beauty tonight too, including a box with a heart message inside of it.

One of the items was this heart-shaped dish which was the most perfect way to house the heart rocks we found on the beach. (Thank you Kim & Dave!)

It’s perfect! It’s beautiful! And it was a gift and a good reminder that the heart is our strongest muscle.

It’s also my little spot of beauty for the day.

More tomorrow.

{what is your spot of beauty for the day?}

2014 BLOG – DAY 32 peak performance: fighting the flu

1 Feb

Oh. Boy.

Justin’s home sick. Coughing. Sneezing. Wheezing. Flu bug brewing. I suppose it’s that time of year. But… yuck. It’s so hard to watch someone you love not feel good.

It makes peak performance seem a bit irrelevant. I know he would love to be able to breathe without a wheeze right now.

It’s a good reminder, and one that follows me around.
Health is the greatest wealth. Feeling good is winning.

Sniff. Sniff. Cough. Cough.
Now my nose is running too!

But I’m thinking healthy thoughts. Healthy. Healthy. Healthy.

More tomorrow.

2014 BLOG – DAY 28 :: peak performance: strength

28 Jan

Today I’m cracking open a new book. I’m reading it for work and a client project. Yet, it couldn’t be more fitting for a year of peak performance.

Strength Finder

The opening paragraph from the authors says:
“Our goal was to start a global conversation about what’s right with people.”

And I suppose it’s a good idea to kick off this year understanding my strengths. Especially if I want peak performance.

Want to play along?
You can find the book here:
