JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 182 :: long summer nights

1 Jul
{joyfulness}

The summer nights are long, the light hanging in the air until late at night. All the better for packing. I am surrounded by piles and piles and piles. All things that need to be placed in boxes and packed and moved. And I’m being ruthless in my packing – Marie Kondo would be proud.

There’s a certain amount of joy in purging. There is also a sizable level of sorrow in tossing what you no longer need but your heart still holds onto from another time or chapter in life.

I have two weeks to pack and move and transplant my joy. Touching everything I own is one way to remember where I have been. And purging it is another way to make room for more joy in the future.

It’s a good thing the summer nights are long because these piles are high.
Here’s to the joy of decluttering, packing and purging.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 115 :: the joy of summer

24 Apr
{it’s coming, it’s coming}

The sun was out today so tonight’s thought on joy is this: short, sweet and to the point.

Bring on summer and everything that matches longer summer nights and short afternoon naps.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 159 long summer nights

11 Jun

So cool.

It’s after 9pm and the sun is still out. The air is warm. The breeze is calm. It’s a perfect summer night. And it’s not even summer yet – not officially.

It reminds me of being a little girl, trying to sleep on a school night when it felt like a summer night. Listening to the birds sing in the twilight and the adults still sitting outside, talking as if it were summer.

It’s hard to sleep when the sun still shines. But kindness seems to grow stronger in the sunshine, the warm summer sunshine.

Kindness is the sunshine in which virtue grows.” – Robert Green Ingersoll

Here’s to long summer nights, and enjoying their kindness while they are here.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 198 :: promises

23 Jul

Day 198: Joy. Joy.

There are so many things I love about this photo. The girls are not just adorable, funny, smart, fun and full of life. They are beautiful too. They are the two biggest reasons we moved to the PNW and they make my heart so very full.

I also love this photo because it took place outside on a summer night right after we had all braided each other’s hair. I braided their hair and one of these little scrumptious ones braided mine. It’s a circle really, one I don’t take lightly. Passing down the art of the braid.

I think of the generations of women who have braided each other’s hair over time and time and time again. I think of my mom and my aunties who braided mine. And I think of the braids these girls will continue to weave long into the future ahead. It’s a circle of women, the art of the braid. And I’m so glad I’m here to be a part of even just one strand.

It’s a lot like this promise of mine. While every day is different, every moment counts. Whether you are looking for better health or a better situation, it all comes down to a promise.

So now, I yoga. To keep this promise of mine.
Are you keeping yours?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
