JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 103 :: easter kindness

16 Apr

He has risen! And when I say he, I mean the SUN.
It’s been a long winter.

Yet on this Easter Sunday, along with amazing food, family, and some outdoor fun, we had the grace and warmth of the Sun. The flowers were in full bloom too.

And, that may be the best kind of kindness.
Appreciation. Appreciating the everyday miracles around us.
Let the sun shine.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 85 :: rainy sun

29 Mar

The sun will come out tomorrow! Man… it feels like it’s been a long winter. And today with the rain falling outside my window, I cannot help but think it is really not quite Spring yet.

Then, miraculously, the sun came out. Late in the day. Just to peek in and show its face. And that has me thinking that sunshine is kindness. Just as is the rain.

The kind of kindness that takes two to makes the flowers bloom, the raindrops dry, and the grass green.

Welcome Spring. You are one wet mess!
And I kind of like it.

More tomorrow….

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 75 :: sunny kindness

19 Mar

The sun came out today. It was marvelous. The warm sunshine was just what I needed to start feeling like a human again. It’s also what the delicate little flowers needed, and Pup too.

We went for a walk, Mr. Pup and I. Or, rather, he took me for a walk. It was my intentional act of kindness today. On our walk, we saw squirrels and tennis balls and other dogs and mud. LOTS of mud. Stick to your shins like cake batter kind of mud.

I gave my shoes a bath when we returned home.
But it was all worth it because the sun was out.
And so were we.

There’s nothing more refreshing, and kind, that sunshine on what feels like a break from winter springy day.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 86 :: spring was here

27 Mar

Day 86: Rainy days.

Yesterday was so Springy! And today was, well, not. But I did find what might be my new favorite coffee shop. Woods Coffee. Not in the woods however, this place is overlooking the harbor.

It hangs out on the boardwalk and pier overlooking Bellingham Bay. And while I had to walk through pelting rain to get there, it was worth the trip.

Even though I was missing the warm, spring sunshine, there’s something so purely calming about cozying up to a fire after being out in the cold.

I suppose that’s the power of contrast. Regardless, I am ready to spring forward into that sunshine wherever she may be…now, on to yoga…

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 54 :: the sun will rise tomorrow

23 Feb
Oh mOndAy! @#$#  You leave me so upside down sometimes. Like today with aches and pains and the not so blissful menstrual cramps. I try to always look on the bright side, but sometimes a girl just needs a nap.

But alas, I wait for your friend Tuesday to arrive tomorrow. Just a glimpse of tomorrow.
The sun will rise tomorrow!

Such bliss awaits.

More tomorrow.

  {what bliss awaits you?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 341 :: photos from seattle

7 Dec

Somehow we found sun in Seattle.

Usually I write more, photo less. But tonight, since the SUN was so amazing today in Seattle I am just sharing some pics from Pikes Market.

Including a golden pig, ferris wheel ride, Mt. Rainier, beautiful blue water and blue skies over a Seattle skyline.

Oh, yes, and some cold, cold weather.
But it was worth the shivers to see this city under a bright sunny sky.
A GIFT really.

Speaking of gifts, today my gift went to Jaynane.
Because it’s hard to leave Pike Market and not buy a souvenir.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless}

{what was your gift today?}

Day 243: blue moon – what do you want to start?

31 Aug

Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. In Year One, I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the words Funny, Funny.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:

As in, left foot first.

I watched the sunset tonight and then the moonrise.

The blue moon rise.

This was right after an incredible yoga class with Sara Ivanhoe at the Martha’s Vineyard Yoga Festival.

Sara guided us through a special practice specifically for the Blue Moon. What does that mean? Well, for starters we did everything backward.

Left foot first.

Because the right side of our body is all energy, sunshine, light, masculine, external. While the left side is shadow, internal, the feminine within. And, since all (most) yoga teachers begin with the right foot first, right side first, our left sides get a little less work, energy, attention.

Which, as Sara explained, is a fascinating phenomenon in our masculine, external, energy driven society where we are so busy projecting out our energy. Basically, we shortchange our left side and our internal energy in this right dominated culture.

So today, we focused on the moon side. Left foot first.

It totally screwed me up.
In a good way.

Sara also guided us through some incredible moves and even greater insight and tips for our yoga practice. One of my favorites:

“Where the eyes go, the energy flows.”

Makes so much sense, doesn’t it?

I know this from my basketball days — where you look is where the ball goes. Where you look is where you hands go. Where you look is where your body takes you.

It works in yoga too.

1) Where your eyes go is where your body goes.

2) The body has two energies – moving forward and backward.

Why does this matter? If you want to hit a Crow and then jump into Chaturanga, it helps to look forward instead of down. Really, it does.  AMAZING.

Not that I can do it (yet) but I fearlessly tried. I also tried to do a handstand leaning up against the wall. I TRIED. I did not succeed. Which I am still a bit uncomfortable getting comfortable with. It sucks to be the only one in class not able to do something.

Which I know isn’t the point.  And, I’m sure that’s just my moon side, the shadow within, complaining. To that, I promise to be fearless and return to yoga again tomorrow. As my father always says — “the sun will rise tomorrow.”

Speaking of the sun and moon rising, Sara also asked us these two intriguing questions in light of the blue moon — a powerful time to begin again.

What do you want to start?
What do you want to let go of?

Day 162: a free movie on a rainy day

11 Jun

It’s a rainy Saturday here on the island, which is good for three things:

Reading books, catching up on email and watching movies.

On this dreary day, under the gray sky and wind blown trees, this is what my head discovered:

I hate finishing a good book.
I am a few chapters away from finishing Broken Open:How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow by Elizabeth Lesser.  What a perfect day to finish reading a book!  But, I can hardly force myself to do it.

I have had this problem since Madeleine L’Engle found me in A Wrinkle In Time as a little girl.  Once I finish, my new friends disappear forever onto the book shelf … maybe that’s why I am constantly starting books and not finishing them?

I wish I had a home to decorate.
And of course, I also wish I could shop for it too.  Because if I did, and I could, I would … go directly to this website recommended by my FB pal Mary Thurston.  I have been daydreaming about it all day: One Kings Lane

I love green tea.
I think I am now on my 6th or 7th cup of hot water today.  It’s cold here, colder than summer should be and my only remedy is a big woolly sweater, thick, heavy socks and numerous cups of tea.

And, finally, I can’t say no to a free movie.
In the middle of all this I was totally distracted by this movie:

Burzynksi: Cancer Is Serious Business

It’s a documentary of sorts, following the story of one doctor who has a cure for cancer and has been defending himself against the government and FDA for decades.

The movie is free to watch for the next few days and you can view it below if you are interested.  Warning: it will make your head spin.

I hope the sun found you somewhere today.
And, if you too were surrounded by rain then I wish you the thrill of finding some hidden treasures, maybe in a good book, a warm cup of tea and a corner to sit and daydream.

As for me, I’m off to (reluctantly) finish reading a book.
