JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 158 :: keeping secrets

29 Jun

Relief.

Here’s the first of many photos that I’m sure I will share about our surprise, pop up wedding day. Or, as Justin likes to say, hijacking one night of the family reunion.

What you don’t see in this photo is the months of planning, dodging questions, vague answers, secret Pinterest boards, private shopping trips, dress fittings, internet searches, and coming up with plan A, B, C, D and E, just in case. (And, just for fun, a trip to the emergency room.)

It’s late here in Estes Park. So this blog will be short and I will save all the stories for later. But the lesson in kindness is this – if you want to keep a secret you’ve got to roll with the current. Go with the flow.

Where it takes you will be amazing. I promise!
And there will be more tomorrow.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 215 :: unfolding

11 Aug

Day 215: surprise.

Ah, this promise thing.
It never unfolds that way I think it should, or would, or might. There is always a surprise. And, while I’m still waiting to figure this year out, to see exactly where it’s taking me… there is one thing I know.

To cross the ocean, you have to lose sight of the shore…
or something like that.

AND…. now I yoga.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 109 :: happy easter …and… it’s purple!

20 Apr

We had an Easter surprise… the Rhodies bloomed today.
And they are purple!

We’ve been wondering what color these would become and now we know. Ironically, Mama Sling’s favorite color was purple. Or, maybe it’s not ironic…

So that’s my spot of beauty for the day. Here’s to celebrating new things blooming.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

{what is your favorite color of flower?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 349 :: it’s a wrap!

15 Dec

I think I just found the best holiday invention… ever.

Reversible gift wrap.
Okay, that might be an exaggeration but still… AMAZING!

Green stripes on one side.
Santa pattern on the other.

The best part was that I had no idea I was buying reversible gift wrap until I got it home and “unwrapped” it.

It was a surprise.
But it was the best kind of surprise, an added-value, unexpected perk, better-than-you-could-imagine sort of surprise.

It’s a reminder for me too. And for anyone trying to surprise and delight — whether it’s your clients, customers, friends or family.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

P.S. Today’s gift goes to Justin. He just can’t open it until Christmas.  (Hint: it’s in the boxes with reversible gift wrap.)

{who can you surprise?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 247 :: does the sun set better on the west coast?

6 Sep

The sun sets in the west. This we know is true.

But the sunsets are way, way better on the West Coast.

Tonight we surprised family. I hitchhiked (really, just road shotgun) with Jaynane home to Mt. Vernon, Washington.  And tonight we surprised Jill, Danny and the girls (our nieces). They didn’t know I was coming up here and when I walked into the room jaws dropped.

Surprises are so much fun.
Not the kind of surprises that come in the form of bills, medical issues or pink slips of course. But the kind that come in hugs, butterfly kisses and soccer games on a Saturday morning.

I am full of excitement and anticipation to see the girls play soccer tomorrow morning. I can almost smell the fresh grass stains!

And tonight as the sun sets I am reminded that this is just one more reason why we moved WEST.

Surprise!

More tomorrow.

{what was your last surprise?}

Day 319: surprise!

15 Nov

I love a good surprise.
Bad surprises suck.
GOOD surprise are like gold.

Kind of like the surprise Justin gave me on Day 226 with a treasure of jewelry.

But good surprises don’t’ have to be lined with gold to be good.
Like today, for instance, I got a fun and fabulous surprise right here in Naples, Florida.

Can you guess who arrived?
She is warm, wonderful, and definitely on FIRE and full of surprises lately.

Did you guess Debbie Phillips?

Like I said.
I like a good surprise.

As Debbie asks in her latest post — Is there anyone you’d like to surprise? — tons of ideas come to my mind.

If you want some more inspiration, here are some of Debbie’s suggestions:

*  A phone call to someone who’d appreciate hearing your voice instead of an email?

* An offer to take kids on a play date with you!

* A invitation to treat someone to lunch at their favorite place — for no special reason?

You can read more about Debbie’s surprises in her weekly email The Spark!
And, no matter where you find your inspiration, I hope you have a good surprise coming in your life too.

It doesn’t have to cost a thing — and it’s good for the soul.

Day 179: a box arrived at the door

28 Jun

Today is not my birthday.
And yet something arrived at the front door.  In a box.  And it was a surprise.

How fun!
It made me think a bit about boxes and surprises.

I once watched my little cousin, when she was a toddler, tear all the wrapping paper off her first Christmas gift and then scream in delight: “a box!” as soon as she hit cardboard.  She didn’t go any further thinking this box was the end goal, and it was thrill enough.  She immediately turned to the next shiny gift-wrapped box in her pile and began unwrapping another …box.

To her, just the thought of a gift was enough excitement to keep tearing through more wrapping paper and starting all over again.

I think surprises are fun.
And I had that same rush today as my little cousin did years ago when I arrived home and was greeted with a box addressed to me just sitting and waiting on the front step.

Gifts are precious.
Good surprises are fun.
But a surprise and a gift in the same box, well that is unexpected joy.

I’ll tell you what was in the box tomorrow.
And, I’m guessing you won’t be surprised.
