JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 301 :: joy is sleeping in

29 Oct

{floating}

I had a mandatory floating holiday today. It was a “use it or lose it” kind of day so of course, I used it and slept in. Late. It felt like lavish luxury. I find so much joy from sleeping in, staying under the covers on a cold morning and dreaming late into the morning.

What a fabulous way to start a Monday and a great way to start the week. Especially after so many late nights watching baseball.

Joy is dreaming and sleeping in. Here’s to sweet dreams!

More tomorrow… Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 304 :: sweet dreams

2 Nov
Today we gained an hour. I didn’t realize it until it was too late. I unintentionally used it for some extra sleep. My body must have needed it. I suppose that makes it a surprise gift?

Speaking of surprises, and gifts, and sleep, I had a dream this week.

It’s the same recurring dream I’ve had since that pesky cancer diagnosis ripped me off the basketball court in high school.  In my dream I’m playing basketball. It’s usually some form of my subconscious working out a buzzer beater play. I have the ball. We need to score. Sometimes I don’t have the ball but I’m trying desperately to get the ball. The clock is always ticking. The pressure is always on.

The dream takes on different forms. But in many ways it’s always the same. A high school basketball game and I’m trying to make a play.

But this week my dream changed. Instead of fighting for the ball on the court, I was the coach making the call from the sidelines. I somehow changed roles and I woke up feeling free.

It was more than a symbolic breakthrough.
It was it’s own form of a peak performance.
It was beautiful.
And a sweet dream.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

 {what will you dream about tonight?}

Happy weekend! What are you doing for fun for these three days?

As for me, I’m taking it easy tonight. Short and sweet.

Sweet dreams!

Day 139: sweet dreams

19 May

Can you guess where I am?

Here’s a photo hint….

Do you know what’s in that little baggie of goodness?

The one.
The only.
DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie!!

That’s right, I’m at the Orlando DoubleTree hotel.
Ah, the famous home of warm, baked, chocolate chip cookies!

I can’t believe I turned down a cookie today.
I said no to the wonderfully helpful and welcoming woman at the front desk.

She looked at me like I had two heads.
And, really, I do.

There is one head:  the thinking one.
She is pretty much scared of sugar and convinced it is a toxin after watching this little video.

Then, there is the other head:  the craving one.
She craves chocolate and sugar.  She looooooves chocolate and sugar.
And she can justify eating it any time of day.

Today, the thinking head won.
I turned down the chocolate chip cookie and can honestly say I have never done that before!

I’m not saying I will never have chocolate or sugar ever again. But, after going this long, over a month now, I’m not ready to break the streak.

Plus, I just know what happens when I start with these little cookies… I can’t stop.

(Case in point:  I have literally asked the DoubleTree hotel for seconds, thirds and fourths of those lovely cookies before.  Seriously.  And, the hotel will oblige!)

This is a major (huge!) change in my life.
I might be dreaming of those yummy cookies.
But, I’m saying no.

Because, I am committed to creating sweetness, long lasting sweetness in the form of healthy habits for my head, heart, body and soul.

And, I guess, dear DoubleTree delight, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
