JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 323 :: joy is pie

22 Nov

{happy thanksgiving}

If ever there is a night to think joy is pie, it is tonight. And, to add personalized mini pies to the mix including apple, pecan, pumpkin and cherry, well … that leaves us where we started.

Joy is pie.

Happy Thanksgiving!

More tomorrow…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 322 :: joy is thanksgiving

21 Nov

{with loved ones}

Thanksgiving is about gratitude and love. Tonight I find joy in seeing family, gatherings with food, and all the joy found in between a turkey and a pie. Tomorrow we eat, but I am already stuffed with joy.

Here’s to the stuffings of life!

More tomorrow… Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 320 :: joy is friendsgiving

18 Nov

{grateful}

Today was Friendsgiving and I am joyous that we have good friends in Boston to share a feast with in honor of Friendsgiving.  And what a feast it was, a thanksgiving ritual but this time renewed with a few good friends.

I am thankful for the friends in my life, coast to coast, east to west, north to south. Family may be blood, in it for the thick and thin, but friends are the icing on the cake of life. They give without obligation. What a gift.

 Cheers to friends, food and giving.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 319 joy is a parade

17 Nov

{thanksgiving}

Today our joy was watching a parade. Not just any parade, a Thanksgiving parade in America’s Hometown… Plymouth, MA. There were patriots and Minutemen, there were colonials and Clydesdales.

But most of all, there was laughter and waving and children lining the streets. I don’t know why a parade brings so much joy to the world, but it does. At least to this little hometown with homegrown history worry of a parade.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 327 :: happy thanksgiving

23 Nov
{stuffing}

I’m feeling stuffed.
With love.
And that’s the best kind of thankful on the night of Thanksgiving.

What a great way to kick off the holiday season. A season of light and love. Family and friends. Food and flavors. Moments and memories.

Is there a bigger call for kindness?
Happy Thanksgiving.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 326 :: good acts

22 Nov
{kind}

In this year of intentional kindness, I am hardwired to notice the good. The kindness that is thrown around like confetti. And today, I found this — One Million Acts of Good

Of course, it’s from the brains over at Ellen. And if you want to get inspired, head on over to the website and read all about everyone who is doing good. From kindergarten to girls around the world, and everywhere in between.

In such a bad news world, I’m loving One Millions Acts of Good.
It’s kind.
And kind-hearted.
Which makes it all good.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 322 :: happy thankfulness

24 Nov

Day 322: To family.

Tonight, at dinner, we went around the table saying what we were thankful for — there were so many good things. So many reasons to be thankful.

A beautiful table, some of the most amazing people I know, and of course my mother’s rolls.  I am thankful I have her recipe even though I no longer have her sitting at the table with me.

And tonight, I was thankful she didn’t see (or taste) the mess of rolls of that recipe my hands made. In so many ways, it makes me appreciate her more. The things she could do that I can’t quite master. It keeps me on my toes. My blessed, thankful, newly pedicured toes.

Those are my favorite presents of Thanksgiving. The memories and the moments with family. Those who are sitting with us at the table and those who are sitting with us in our hearts.

Namaste, Rolls. Namaste.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 326 :: bliss bust

26 Nov

Today’s bliss…trying.

So, the pie….

Turns out it was not all the that. The crust was sort of dry, and the wheat flour that we had at ten o’clock last night was not quite “right”. (That’s another flour story for another day that has to do with Safeway and no electricity… but anyhoooo, back to the pie).

While the insides tasted sweet, they were just too candy-pecaned much for most human tongues, unless you’re three-years old and will eat anything, including straight sugar out of the box. I almost ate one whole pie piece because, well, I think that’s my punishment for making it in the first place…

But that’s only because we were able to cut through the crusted-over top shelf that formed during the baking process, requiring a heavy kitchen knife to slice through the surface. A laser beam would have been more efficient.

And while on the surface it seems like a bust, it’s really a bliss. Because last night during our evening escapade to make this pie appear and then today during the final process of tasting pie to tongue, I couldn’t help but think fondly of my mother.

St. Mama Sling.

She would have been tickled to death at the thought that I was in the kitchen. Her daughter, the one who vowed to NEVER, EVER learn how to cook, made a pie. For Thanksgiving. She would have laughed and teased and reminded me over and over that I should have paid attention while she had been trying to teach me how to cook and bake and prepare a holiday meal. But I didn’t.

So the pie was pretty awful. Hard on the outside. Too sweet on the inside. Hard to cut through. Difficult to swallow. But totally worth it. Because I tried.

And Mama Sling would be so proud.

And that reminds me…It’s kind of similar to the best parts of life. Whether it be a holiday or regular day. Even if it’s pretty awful. Hard on the outside. Too sweet on the inside. Hard to cut through. Difficult to swallow. But totally worth it.

Just trying is all that matters.
And for that I am grateful.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 323 :: bliss this

23 Nov

Today’s bliss…Monday, Monday, Monday.

As in Monday Night Football. And Monday of Thanksgiving Week! And that means tomorrow is Tuesday (sometimes the best part of Monday is moving on to another day.)

And for that I am grateful.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 332 :: from frozen to chef, fear to love

30 Nov

In a Thanksgivingpalooza moment we made a turkey tonight, complete with mashed potatoes and stuffing… and cranberry sauce. What can I say? We were tempted. The turkey was half price! Why not do Thanksgiving all over again?

So we did.

We also watched two movies in the spirit of the Turkey-Weekend-Bonanza. I must admit we are a year late to the Frozen arena, but now I am up to speed. Let it go… Let it go… will never mean the same to me now that I have actually seen the movie. I mean, honestly, I thought Elsa was the main character with all the Halloween costumes of little girls in baby blue… but I think it was actually Anna?

And then, tonight, we watched Chef.

Both movies are peak performance masterpieces in their own right.  In many ways, both are about optimism and challenge. Uniqueness and passion over outcast differences. Mostly they profess the power of choosing love over fear.

Another theme in peak performance.

It takes a boldness, a knowingness, a vision of what can be in order to make it so. Whether it’s in a castle of ice or a food truck on the street. Building a snowman or a career based on passion. Work, play, every single day…. the lesson seems to be the same.

Choose love.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
