JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 119 :: don’t trust your age

1 May

{trust}

I’ve been thinking a lot about age lately. As in, forgetting what age I really am. It’s not that I don’t act my age it’s just that I have always been 42. Even as a teenager I felt way beyond my numbered years. I felt 42. When I was in my twenties I felt 42. In my thirties and now in my forties, I still feel 42. It’s like my chosen number.

It was the number I wore on my basketball uniform too – maybe that’s why I chose it in the first place. It is my number. And age, the actual thing of aging is really just a number, not a soul assignment.

Maybe there are some things in this year of Trust that I am learning NOT to trust.

Trust in your energy. Trust in your dreams. Don’t believe your age. It’s just a number. Life and our soul assignments are so much greater than a number.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 118 :: trust in starting over

29 Apr

{trust}

Ah, Monday! The best thing I have to say to you is, thank you. Thank you for the chance to start over, to begin again, to look at the world (and all my work, responsibilities, commitments, plans, goals, dreams, promises) with new eyes.

You do this to me every week. Every seven days. You pop up and remind me that I am starting over, with a jolt, or wake up call, to say the weekend is fleeting. That IKEA project is still looming, those papers are still sitting and those meetings are still waiting for me.

But seriously, thank you. I mean it from the bottom of my heart, Monday. Every week needs a restart button. A space and moment in time to get a fresh perspective before returning to the desk/chair/seat/car/path where I have been, and Monday, you always deliver.

  Monday, you seriously get a bad reputation. But I have to say, you are always at the beginning, the starting point of something great. A reoccurring new beginning and a chance to start over even if it is for a brief moment organizing my desk and my brain and my week.

So… thank you. I mean it.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 117 :: trust in DIY

28 Apr

{trust}

It was an IKEA day, after an OrangeTheory day, after a protein pancake day. I have to say I love them all not in any particular order. But at the end of a my-hand-are-soar-from-twisting-little-IKEA-tools I have to say I am only 1/3 of the way done. Never fear I will finish the project maybe over days and possibly weeks.

It reminds me that it takes a lot of trust to go head over heels into IKEA project mode. I haven’t been in this place for a while but when in Rome… trust your inner D.I.Y.

  The end product will be worth it but for now, I’m stuck in the middle trying to trust my DIY dreams.
Now excuse me as I clean up my mess… for tonight.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 90 :: trust in spring

2 Apr

{trust}

Spring is coming! Spring is coming!

We have officially spotted a flower poking out of the ground. We are pretty sure it’s a yellow daffodil just waiting to bloom. It has me thinking about trust and spring and how they can bloom hand-in-hand.

It’s a good reminder to be like a flower. Bloom and grow and trust the spring.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 88 dreams are made of trust

31 Mar

{trust}

Trust me. I’ve been thinking about this topic of trust for a while now… at least 88 days. It has me spotting things, or I should say, looking at things in a new light. Like the flowers trying to spring out of the ground and the trust it must take to push through layers of soil to follow the sun.

Or the winning shot at the end of a basketball game, and the trust it must take to keep pushing forward. Trust is a game of faith and hope and its the stuff dreams are made of.

But without trust, I’m not sure it’s possible to go after your dreams. You have to trust there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. You have to trust there will be sun after you push through the soil. And you have to trust that game-winning shot will leave your hands and fall through the hoop. Maybe that is why it is called March Madness.

It’s quite mad to believe in spring, that the sun will melt the snow and the flowers will come out to play. But we do. We trust it will happen. And it does.

What a beautiful reminder from Mother Nature to keep the faith, hope… and trust.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 88 :: trust is tricky business

30 Mar

{trust}

Oh, madness! We watched the latest NCAA March Madness games tonight and it has me thinking about not giving up, the power of trusting yourself through the final ticking seconds, and sticking with it when all seems lost.

Trust is proving to be a tricky business as I explore it more this year, but just like March Madness trust is also teaching my basketball-loving heart that it’s not over until the final buzzer…

So why not trust and believe and play until the very end? It could be worth it!

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 86 :: trust is a mental model

28 Mar

{trust}

I read an article today about mental models. You can read it here. To quote the article:

A mental model is an explanation of how something works. It is a concept, framework, or worldview that you carry around in your mind to help you interpret the world and understand the relationship between things. Mental models are deeply held beliefs about how the world works.

It inspired me to start thinking about trust and if it could be a mental model. Trust is a framework of sorts… trusting what comes at you, what develops around you, and how to react to all you cannot control. A mind that is aligned with trust is a less chaotic environment, with less stress, and more flexible thinking. Trust is a framework.

Trust is a mindset and a mental model. Not that I have it under control or know exactly how to use it… yet. But that’s what this year is for.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 79 :: trust the adventure

21 Mar

{trust}

I find myself in Chicago tonight, it’s another travel day. Which means an adventure. Today’s adventure started off with my Uber driver canceling my ride to Logan Airport. It’s okay, I just called another UBER and made it to the airport just a little late. I still had time.

Then my bag was pulled in the airport security line for inspection.  I waited behind two other people waiting for their bags to be inspected. The first was a young mother with a bag full of breast milk. As the security guard inspected her bag the breast milk spilled all over the security table which took extra time to clean up. Then the next woman in line had a bag full of hairspray and soda. As I stood in line waiting, not very patiently, for my turn I couldn’t help but chastise these poor bag packers and vacation planners standing in line ahead of me as the time ticked away to take off.

Finally, it was my turn and the security guard picked up my bag. Then she promptly pulled out not a bottle of milk, or hairspray or soda… but a metal tool called a Leatherman.

I gasped, and said, “Oh, my God we have been looking for that thing for weeks! I have no idea how it got in my computer bag…”

The security said, “Do you want to check it in your luggage and go back through security?” I looked at the long line and contemplated what was worse, missing my flight or telling Justin that the Leatherman he had been searching the house up and down for the last two weeks now permanently lived at Logan Airport.

I chose the latter and made my flight. The irony of all it this is that when I spoke to Justin tonight neither of us could figure out how the Leatherman got into my computer bag but both of us agreed that I was the worst offender out of everyone in line (especially the ones I was judging for their poor packing skills). Turns out I was the true idiot packer in line today.

But it was an adventure.
Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 75 :: trust you are lucky

17 Mar

{trust}

I didn’t wear any green today but I do feel lucky.

We spent the day sanding, painting, and sanding and painting. The faux fireplace is real and really done (except for the final insert but who’s counting?). I feel lucky to have a husband who takes my inspirations and helps turn them into real things for me to enjoy.

Even though it required seventeen trips to Lowes. On one of the last trips a man in the building aisle turned and said to us, “I’ve seen you both here so many times, you must be making something really cool.”

Five returned items and one new circ saw later, we have a beautiful faux fireplace complete with 45-degree angles. But I have something else in my heart. Trust.

On this St. Patrick’s Day, I am thinking about those who are lucky to live in trust. With their loved ones, their families and friends, their communities, and a hubby who will go to the ends of the world to build their dreams… or at least to Lowe’s seventeen times.

As this year moves on, it is becoming clear to me that we need to build more trust. Between the headlines of mass shootings and college entrance bribings and children marching, to mention a few, I have to wonder if more Trust could help solve it all.

I would like to live in that world, a world where trust was the simple answer. As I sit here, at the end of the luckiest day of the year, I wish we could all be so lucky.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie
