JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 230 :: love and trust

18 Aug

{trust}

Today I watched the 2018 documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? It’s a retrospective of Mr. Fred Rodgers, or what I knew as a little kid to be Mister Rodgers Neighborhood.

It’s amazing how much of his message from that show are still with me, and I imagine so many others from his 30 years on television. But it was more than insightful for me to revisit it today through the eyes of an adult. In fact, it made me cry. Not just a few nostalgic tears, but rivers of tears dripping down my face.

It feels to me that our world needs another Mister Rodgers. Maybe an updated version to some degree because certainly, the world has changed. As I watched the documentary today I couldn’t help but wish that the void he left was filled, on television and now, social media. I remember being glued to the television watching puppets and actors and Mister Rodgers himself deliver the message of the day. Now, looking back I realize I had no idea how honest he was being, how insightful his teachings were and how safe he was making me feel in this very big world.

One of his quotes strikes a chord of trust with me today:

Love and trust, in the space between what’s said and what’s heard in our life, can make all the difference in this world.”

Everything comes back to those two words: love and trust.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 227 :: dream trust

15 Aug

{trust}

I’ve decided that we all need a Dream Trust. A trustworthy set of friends and supporters who see our vision even brighter than we ever could on our own. A Dream Trust is a small group of humans (maybe one…and maybe just a trustworthy dog too) who sits next to your dream and waters it, tends to it, and watches it grow.

Too many dreams get squashed right before they take root.

If we all looked after our dreams and maybe those of one other person, it would be like focusing on the sunshine-to-rain quotient. Or, what it takes for seeds to sprout, grow and bloom.

Instead of focusing on the manufactured news or depressing moment of the day, or the what’s-wrong-with-the-world-now moment, the Dream Trust would hold tightly to all that is possible, even for one minute a day. Which adds up to hours, and then days, and years and well, many dreams realized.

And while not every dream is meant to come true (some are just meant to introduce us to our next dream) every dream is worth a Dream Trust.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 226 :: bloom beauty bloom!

14 Aug

{trust}

It’s the height of summer and the flowers are still in bloom. The little rose bush outside my window still looks at me every morning with pink blooms. And I notice it. Mostly because it’s bright pink but also because it stands out against a green backdrop.

It’s a good lesson in being different and uniquely beautiful. Sometimes the most beautiful things are the ones that aren’t afraid to stand out.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 225 :: choosing

13 Aug

{trust}

It’s only Tuesday and it already feels like Friday! Maybe that is a good thing? Maybe it is a choice. I have been thinking much about choices lately, the ones we choose and the ones we let others choose for us — namely when it comes to attitude.

Attitude, it seems is the only thing that we have control over, and choice. To choose our attitude no matter the circumstances.

One time, a while ago, I did a No Complaint Challenge. The gig was to count the number of days in a row that you could rack up not complaining. It was, well, challenging. There are so many ways to complain, and so many little under the breath or to the side gripes that count in the complaint department. But complaining is not a reaction, it is, rather a choice.

There are so many reasons to have a good attitude, we just have to choose one.

It’s amazing how the world changes when we make different choices.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 218 :: hope blooms

6 Aug

{trust}

Thoughts on trust tonight… Hope is what allows dreams to bloom.

Without hope, it’s hard to have faith, and without faith, it’s hard to focus on love. And, without love, it’s hard to have passion around your plan, and without a plan, well…you know. So, here’s to hope, faith and love with a plan.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 217 :: focus on trust

5 Aug

{trust}

It’s Monday, ya’ll. Congrats, we made it through the starter day of the week. It’s like a practice day and then we have 4 more chances before the weekend arrives. I can do that.

Focus on that which you can believe in and trust (like Friday!).

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 216 :: trust the stretch

4 Aug

{trust}

Today was my first day back to the OrangeTheory workout in a while. And when I say a “while” I mean a month. July has somehow flown away and with it summer is on the horizon.

I am proud of myself in the most humble way possible – mostly for finishing the workout without passing out. That is, in itself, an accomplishment. Tonight as I wind down and feel every aching fiber in my muscles I am reminded that sometimes we must stretch to grow.

Even it means returning to something you have done before. (Ouch)

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 211 :: something good

30 Jul

{trust}

I watched the news for the first time in a long time the other night. I was bored and tired, and just looking to unplug so I turned on the TV. That was a mistake. Wow! It was a massive mistake.

In our world of social media deluge and delusion, the seven o’clock news may be the worst offender. It’s hard enough to see the perfection in everybody else’s life around you on Instagram, but it’s even worse to see the horror down the street on the nightly news.

It has me wondering where we find respite these days.

It also has me thinking about how important it is to find something beautiful, something simple and something good to celebrate.  And maybe something to sing about.

Trust me!

More tomorrow.
