JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 88 :: the lens of joy

31 Mar
{see it}

People ask me how I keep blogging, every single day, for eight years now. I usually answer that it’s because I made a promise to myself. So I don’t miss a day. And now I have the research to back it up.  This article is an excerpt from The Motivation Myth by Jeff Haden. And it explains the power of two words.

I can’t.
I don’t.

If you have a goal in mind, something you want to do, or a promise you want to keep, you should take a quick read. Replacing one word in your vocabulary can make all the difference.

Which is why I DON’T miss a day on this blog. It’s in the words I use with myself. It is the lens that I see the world through.

I believe that words are powerful medicine. Now I know they are guideposts too.
Change your words. Change your life.
And find your joy!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 48 :: snow day

18 Feb

We woke up to snow this morning. A slight dusting across the land leaving everything white capped and wintery. Even the flowers that are poking up out the ground outside my window.

They have delicate little yellow bulbs waiting to open. I worried about them today. But the truth is, Mother Nature knows best.

And those little delicate flowers probably know exactly what to do to survive a February snow and when to do it. Much like I think we all do. We all know what to do deep down in our heart of hearts. There is always that truth.  The heart truth.

So I will keep watching those flowers out my window. And hope the sun will come out tomorrow to warm them back up.

And… In my heart, I already know it will.

More tomorrow…

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 333 :: a kinder way

29 Nov
{oh world}

The news over this last year has left me dizzy. And now, it seems, there is, even more, news and change on the horizon. All the allegations and suspicions and irreparable damage done by humans to other humans.

It’s enough to make my heart hurt. And it makes me want to cry, “can’t we all just be kind!?”

Maybe kindness is the call we need to change the world.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 312 :: one word

8 Nov

I have often said that words are medicine. I believe that words are indeed medicine. I know this from my own life, and the power that words have given me.

My friend Jenn sent me an email at the height of my divorce disaster. Inside it, she wrote,” I know you will get through this because you are made of steel and sunshine.” Those words were the exact medicine I needed at that exact time.

I still believe in the power of words.  One kind word can change someone’s day — or week — or life.

This Year of Kindness is teaching me to change my words. To use the words of kindness, belief, trust, and faith. The kinder my words, the kinder my life. The kinder my thoughts, the kinder my words. The kinder my beliefs, the kinder my thoughts.

It is a beautiful circle. A powerful medicine.

Don’t believe me?  Just try it on for a moment.
Change your words. I believe it will change your life.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 84 :: kindness of words

28 Mar

Last week I lost my voice. And this week I have found words. As in Kindness. Kind words.

It has occurred to me that words are not just power. They are powerful. Healing. Helping. Hoping sorts of power. A kind power.

Kind words live longer.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 49 :: art lives on

18 Feb
I was nominated (thank you Julia McLemore) to be a part of the Art Challenge. I’m honestly still trying to figure out what the rules are and what that means. But it has me thinking about art.

I love art.

Always have, since I was tiny. I mean TINY. A little girl drawing dresses in pencil on the only piece of paper I could find when I was bored while all the all the adults watched TV.

Art moves me. In so many ways. Words do too. I consider words medicine. Words can heal or hurt. Words can float your heart or sink your soul. Words are very precious and powerful. In fact, some people should have to go to WORD SCHOOL just like I had to take a #%*&(%& DRIVING TEST.

I don’t mean Word School as in grammar school. I mean how-to-use-your-words-to-uplift-others school. I mean how-not-to-bully school. I mean how-to-soothe-with-words school.

My Mama Sling taught me to never say anything I didn’t mean – and never to say a mean word.  Or to take it back immediately if I did.

But that’s the problem with words — once they are out, they are OUT there for the universe, or email, or phone messages to hold. Which is why this little blog here (going on 5 freaking years) is so astounding hard and sometimes embarrassing for me to re-read.

When I read posts from five years it feels like reading my childhood diary. What was I thinking? Why did I write that? Why did I DO that?

So this is the point in this blog post where I get to the point. Sometimes art isn’t obvious. Sometimes art is beautiful and amazing or freaky and unforgettable. But it doesn’t matter. It’s always an act of self expression.

And, that, my dears, sometimes takes a bold-ass move. Not just to create self expression, but to share self expression with the world.

Even if it’s only through words.
So, Art Challenge, consider this my first submission. Or post if you will.
Art lives on.

More tomorrow.

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 110 :: two beautiful words

21 Apr

Tonight, all I can say are two beautiful words: THANK YOU.

So many beautiful cards. Over 30 stacked up on my turquoise chest. Mostly orchestrated by the Davis Family… and some really special friends too.

It doesn’t show the incredible acts of kindness I have received from friends in the form of emails, books, notes, gifts, hearts, a video ….and a gift certificate for a NEW bra. (Who knows what size it will be?!)

As I go into the week ahead all I have to say is thank you.

Let me say that again.
Thank you.
Beautiful. Words.

More tomorrow.

{what two words do you love today?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 330 a month of inspiration :: 5 secrets of abundance

26 Nov

Today, in my month-long nod to inspiration, I share a word.

As you know, this year, I dedicated my 365 days to uncovering abundance. What is it? What does it mean? What does it look like?

So, at first, I asked around. I asked my friends, family, and people in my daily life.

Here’s the funny thing about abundance… everyone had a different definition for it. I dare you to get the same answer from 5 people.

In all my conversations, one word kept popping up.

Now we find ourselves here, on the cusp of Thanksgiving Eve. And I am asking myself what have I learned so far about the “A” word?

So tonight I share my TOP 5 Abundance Lessons and what I have discovered thus far… but I warn you …there is still one more month to go in this search for abundance so this is not final.

1. Health is our greatest wealth

Thank you to my thyroid for that one. And a long string of doctor’s appointments across the country from the east coast to the west coast and finally into the caring hands of Dr. Milas of OHSU in Portland, Oregon. The thyroid was benign and as a wave of relief cast over my entire being, I realized something I have known most of my life: health is wealth.

2. Forever Friends are Family

I love my friends dearly. Always have. But this year, in the midst of a cancer scare (see #1) I was reminded what it means to have forever friends. The kind of friends who show up no matter what. The kind of friends who call, write, send surprise gifts in the mail, text, or find some other way to connect and remind you that they care — and are there, even across the miles. These are forever friends. And they are more like family.

3. True Love is for the Dogs

It doesn’t take long for love to set in. Just look in the eyes of a puppy! We successfully passed “Fostering 101” last week according to our Aunt Judy — which means we were able to foster a puppy and then actually follow through to find it a home. It would have been easy to keep her in our little family pack — she was that sweet and that cute. But it wouldn’t have been the best thing for her. And isn’t true love all about knowing what’s best for the one you love?

4. Focus. Focus. Focus.

This year I took on something new — you! Every single day I write to you to help you along with your goals over at The Promise Daily. My mission is to give you a kick in the pants. But what I have learned is that I need this as much as I thought you might like it. Focus is power. And keeping your focus is what allows abundance to grow.

and finally…

5. Words are gifts.

I know I have already shared The Card Crusade with you. But here’s the thing… I truly believe it changed my life… just three little words:  I. LOVE. YOU. — or even — I. THANK. YOU. bring more than a smile to someone’s face. These words warm a heart, they tell someone it was all worth it, they show someone how much you mean even after all these years, after all the tears, hard work, long days, good tries, bad endings, happy reunions or long lost memories in between. Words heal. Words connect. Words work magic on your heart.

So let me leave you with these words of thanks.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for skimming, looking, reading, sharing, posting, referring, and supporting me.

Your presence makes me want to keep my promise.

Your comments get me up in the morning to check and see who’s here.

Your dreams send me searching for more good ideas, inspiring quotes and touch your heart sort of songs that I can share with you.

I. Thank. You.

On this eve before a Thanksgiving celebration, I am full.
Or, you could say, I feel abundant.

All because of you.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless!}

{may you feel abundant and loved}
