JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 82 :: trust your inner superhero

24 Mar

{trust}

While in Chicago this week, I happened upon the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) – it happened to be happening at the hotel I was staying at for a work function. We first noticed it when one of my coworkers commented… “Wow, why does everyone in Chicago have blue or green hair?”

It is the largest pop culture convention in the Midwest. And when I say pop culture I mean, all of pop culture. There were many sights I recognized like R2D2’s rolling around the hotel floors, Captain America’s in costume, Dead Pool outfits. And there were sights I have never seen before… costumes, makeup, capes and such. Some of which I think were just made up and not based on any comic.

We certainly stood out in business attire and button-down shirts amongst a sea of tights, capes and fake weaponry. I suppose we are all playing a part to some extent.

All of it made me think about the costumes we wear every day, the masks we put on, the capes we don, for all the places where we blend in and the places we stand out.

I think the trick is to trust your inner superhero no matter where you land.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 74 :: trust is working together

16 Mar

{trust}

The fireplace is 80% of the way complete. After four trips to Lowes today and a few improvisations on the fly, I have to say the finished product is better than we imagined. And should be finished tomorrow!

And that makes me think about how much better everything is when we collaborate and trust each other. The world needs more trust and collaboration.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 321 :: 4-letter word friday

17 Nov
{work}

Friday. Friday. Friday. It seems like the kindest word on a Friday is “weekend.” It’s good (and kind!) to take a moment and relax, away from work.  So here’s to you FRIDAY!

More tomorrow…

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 244 :: happiness at work

7 Sep

Happiness At Work. It’s a topic that my Curiosity Stream dealt me tonight. So I bit. Since this is the year of Bliss, it seemed like a relevant topic.

The video basically explores the topic of how to make money and have fun, and how some companies around the world are tackling the balance.

But can money buy you happiness — or bliss?

It’s a great question. Age-old question. Maybe even larger-than-life question. Based on the interviews in this documentary the word on the subject came down to factors that go beyond salary, like…

  • Sense of purpose
  • Respect
  • Doing something bigger than themselves and doing it with other people
But the biggest one was that trusty old T world: TRUST. Which seems to make sense to me.

And that has me thinking….In work and life, in happiness we trust.

More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 146 :: leaving on a jet plane and then train

31 May
I’m leaving on a jet plane….

Tomorrow the great escape occurs. Off on an adventure that will take me to Chicago, Seattle, Mount Vernon and then a train trip home through the Cascades. I love an adventure and I love trains. I might even call it bliss.

In Amtrak’s own words…

From Vancouver, British Columbia to Seattle, Portland and Eugene, Oregon, past Mount St. Helens and across the Columbia River Gorge, you’ll witness some of our continent’s most distinctive cities and most spectacular natural attractions. Onboard these sleek, European-style trains, you’ll enjoy wide, reclining seats, laptop outlets and bike racks. Relax in the Bistro Car, which features fresh, regional cuisine, wine, microbrews, and the coffees Seattle made famous.

I have of course much work to do before the train trip occurs (which is okay because even when work feels like work it feels like a creative adventure).

But before I go I’m trying to decide which book to bring with me. It’s not an easy choice. Have any recommendations?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,

Jamie
