JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 246 :: new routines

3 Sep

{trust}

With the newness of fall and everyone heading back to school, I am starting a new routine. Or, at least attempting one. We’ll see how it goes as I attempt to flip my schedule and workout in the morning.

I have been here before and maybe it’s a bit like a fad diet. But, this mountain is worth climbing so here goes! Welcome fall, welcome new routines, welcome new mountains!

What’s your new mountain?

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 140 :: trust in all of it

21 May

{trust}

Ohhhhh, my body is screaming at me. But one of my dreams this year is to get back into shape and trust that my body can handle it. So here I am, sore. And trusting in my dreams, all of them.

You can tooooooooooo. Trust in your dreams, all of them.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 139 :: trust in your dreams

20 May

{trust}

Tonight I am tired in the best of ways… my muscles are sore from a little OrangeTheory workout. As I was running on the treadmill tonight I thought about how much it helps to have a coach. Someone to push your forward. Someone to prevent you from automatically stopping, or stopping too soon.

Dreams are that way too.

We need a dream coach as much as we need one for workouts. Someone who trusts in your dreams more than you do. Someone who won’t let you quit.

SO… Let your dreams rise and your fears fall. You got this.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 109 :: trust in your limits

19 Apr

{trust}

My arms hurt. My legs are getting sore. It all hurts so good. Today I tried my first OrangeTheory class, evah (as you would say in Boston). It was actually in Hingham and I have been eyeing the studio for a while. Since I had the day off (thank you Good Friday!) I decided to jump in both feet first.

That’s usually the problem. Jumping in blindly. I was, in fact, nervous that I wouldn’ be able to keep up in the workout since it’s been a long winter. But the whole point of OrangeTheory is to push your own limits not trying to keep up (thus the heart rate monitors, tracked data and orange zone).

It’s still hard not to try to keep up. Ah, limits and boundaries and the word no. So hard to implement. But I did, or at least I tried to slow down to my own pace and then push my own limits too. Because, really, at the end of the day we are the only ones who know our own limits.

But it takes a lot of trust and some self-knowledge to listen to your own limits and not others. And with that, I will admit, I will be very sore in the morning. But a good kind of sore. A just-for-me kind of sore and there is something special about that.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 296 :: blissful gym

27 Oct

Today’s bliss…. sore muscles.

That’s right, Gym. We’re back and in action. At least for the time being, until I get bored with the stair stepper and move on to a yoga class… but for now, hello Gym! It’s good to be back.

My back would also like to say thank you. And youch!
But it hurts so good.
Almost blissful.

More tomorrow.
lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 245 :: the power of persistence

2 Sep

I swung a tennis racket today. For the first time in a long time, well since my surgeries. It felt soooooooo good. It also has me thinking about peak performance.

I am SO far from physical peak performance these days. But there is one thing I know that is very true — muscle can rebuild. Bodies can change.

Now it’s up to me to add a little persistence to this peak performance promise. And if there’s something I know something about… well, it’s persistence…

…she says as she writes blog post #1, 340.

Oh, yeah… and you can do anything.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

 {what will you add persistence to?}

2014 BLOG – DAY 53 :: back in the saddle

22 Feb

How is your weekend going so far?
I hope well with a little “wow” added in there too.

Tonight I had a slight “woah” at the gym.

First, let me just say that I am pretty proud of myself for making it to the gym on a Saturday night. I mean, really, there are so many weekend distractions.

Somehow I schlepped to my car and drove the 2.7 miles to the gym, without perspiring. I don’t know why, but I was tired, so just making it through the front doors of the gym felt like an Olympic moment. You can hand over the gold medal now, please.

Once inside the gym I opted for the Elliptical machine in the “women’s only” area. “I paced myself to the Pandora radio station pouring through my iPhone headset. Yes, yes, I am “Titanium” thank you very much David Guetta.

I belted the lyrics inside my head  so no one else could hear, until I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.

A seat of sorts. Like a saddle.

I had never seen anything like it before.

So I sat on it, placing my feet in the stirrups and pushed the “on” button. It was EXACTLY like riding a horse. Back and forth, side to side, front to back.

You could even choose your speed. So faster, faster, faster I went as fast as the horse could go. I considered holding on with one hand up in the air and then stopped myself. Whoa nelly. What if I fell off?

Luckily, the “women’s only” section of the gym was empty. There was just one other woman there and she was totally concentrating on her treadmill routine. Or maybe she was pretending not to watch me ride the bucking bronco. I don’t know, I was too embarrassed to look up. Or maybe I was having too much fun?

One thing is for sure: I now live on the west coast. We didn’t have gym equipment like this in Boston. At least not in the gyms where I have been.

I suppose I will wake up in the morning with “riders back” or a bruised leg from the stirrup. At least I’m keeping my promise of peak performance and making it all the way to the gym.

Even if I had to stop at the Rodeo.

More tomorrow.
