JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 320 :: tuesday

22 Nov

Day 320: Thankful.

It’s the week of Thanksgiving. And today I’m just thankful. For so many things. One big one is living close to family. Including this amazing woman who I consider a sister. A soul sister.

Namaste, Sister-Friends. Namaste.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

Day 308: Night Night.

Thanks for a great trip Chicago – I’m off on a jet plane in the morning, but will be taking a piece of you home with me.

It’s hard to do yoga on the road, but I still show up (in little bits and pieces).

Namaste, Chitown. Namaste.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 305 good day, good nightJAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 305 :: good day, good night

7 Nov

Day 305: So Chocolate.

I’m in Chitown, getting ready to chill. And I have a NEW favorite bedtime routine to test out: Good Day Chocolates.

My friend Simeon is part of the team that started this company, and I was so thrilled to find them smiling back at me at my neighborhood Whole Foods this week.

What could be better than chocolate that helps you calm down or sleep?
Good day? How about great day, I say. Or night, as it turns out.

So I am tucking myself in, hoping to wake up tomorrow and have this long political nightmare over. And, as I go to bed, I remember, we are more alike than we realize. All of us. We want more of the same things than we let on. We share it all, this thing called life. So…. how about a little more kindness to all.

Or… a chocolate chill pill? (I’ve got one if you need one.)

Namaste, chocolate. Namaste.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

P.S. Yoga done for the night!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 284 :: what does namaste mean?

17 Oct

Day 284: Seeing the light.

I was asked today what Namaste means. I had to pause, because, while in my head I think  it to means, “I honor the light in you” I had to look it up.

There seem to be many ways to say what namaste means:

So, no matter how you say it, or what you think it means, it’s all good.
Literally. Good.
Namaste.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 270 :: great uncles

2 Oct

Day 270: Family.

We spent the day with family today, and I watched Justin take on the role he loves best: Uncle Justin. There was much football and games, and food and crafts, and basketball. That’s what Uncle’s do when they have two little nieces.

But the thought that kept running through my mind was that of my Great Uncle. Kermie, that is. He turned 80 today and doesn’t look a day over 40…and I couldn’t be more proud. He is a GREAT uncle.

He taught me to roller blade. He let me move into his spare bedroom when I was fresh out of college and headed into the big, wide world of Washington, D.C. (long enough to save my first paycheck for my first rent check to get on my feet for the first time in my life).

He has a way with words too. You know, the kind of words that rhyme. Or the kind of words that form the perfect sentence full of deep thoughts, wrapped in wit with humor on top.

He’s a gourmet cook and taught me to appreciate the delicacy of food that wasn’t a hamburger or a pizza, or at least a deep appreciation for watching him cook me something that wasn’t a hamburger or a pizza.

In his kitchen, he used to always say, “We can eat whatever we want because we are Big Kids now.”

And, even to this day, on his 80th birthday, I have no idea if he truly understands how special all of those moments were to me. Or how important he made me feel. Or how much fun he made being a grown up look to me.

So, to my dear GREAT Uncle Kermie – happy birthday! May you get to do whatever you want, eat whatever you want, and enjoy whatever you want. You are, after all, a Big Kid now.

Love you…. so much!

(P.S. Yoga done).

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 262 :: just a little nod

25 Sep

Day 262: A fall heart.

Just a little nod from Autumn tonight. In the shape of a heart. Found on the sidewalk next to the bay.

Yoga done. Week begun.
I hope you have a sweet week ahead, full of beautiful colors and random hearts.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 261 :: a call for kindness

24 Sep

Day 261: Human Kindness.

I have been thinking about kindness for the past 24-hours, and my Random Act of Kindness commitment this week.

But, it has been a long 24-hours living not far from Burlington and the Cascade Mall. The shootings last night were surreal, and tragic, and everything that everyone has ever said about unnecessary violence. This time, it was just down the street.

But isn’t it always? Just down the street? Somebody’s street is always just down or out of the way of the latest violent act of randomness.

I was in Mount Vernon last night. I drove right by the mall on my way. I almost stopped to buy more underwear, because, I need some. But I didn’t because life and plans got in the way and I was running late. The only reason I bring it up is that it could be ANY of us buying something at a Macy’s counter on ANY random night.

And I think that is what has saddened me most. Why this keeps happening down any one street, or school, or movie theater, or mall just doesn’t make ANY sense to me. Violence knows no boundaries in times like these.

But I do know this.
How we choose to act on any given day makes a difference in the lives of others and our communities and for ourselves. Our choices matter. All of them. And, in my book, our world could use a whole hell of a lot more Random Acts of Kindness, if we choose. So I will.

Starting with me. Human kindness. Randomly. Thoughtfully. Repeatably.
That’s my choice.
What is yours?

Bright before me the signs implore me:
Help the needy and show them the way.
Human kindness is overflowing,
And I think it’s gonna rain today.…

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 244 hot, hot, hot

7 Sep

Day 244: Chicago hot.

It’s hot here in Chicago. And I feel like I can’t drink enough water to keep my sweat in balance. I’m convinced 80 degrees in Chicago equals 100 degrees on the West Coast (or the left coast).

I’m so over it. And yet,I like it. Because I know as soon as I go home the pool will be closed. Summer will be over. The leaves will be yellow. And fall will be in full swing.

Hot or not.
It’s the last goodbye to summer.

Which has me thinking about my promise. My year of yoga. My promise to do more for myself. So much has happened and yet, so little has changed. Fall will bring with it a sweeping awareness, as it always does. It is always in October. The month of the harvest. The time when my promise begins to unfold.

And I’m ready for the adventure.
How about you?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
